Night Sweats

GoodShipLollipopBop · 05/10/2022 15:23

I'm 41, and am sweating buckets during the night. I wake up and there is literally sweat pooling in between my boobs in the middle of the night, so much so I have to tuck a tissue in between them. I wake up smelling like a lorry driver that hasn't showered in a week Confused

I first started noticing it in the summer, so assumed it was due to the heat. It seemed to be worse when I wore some short sleeve Pj's that are made of a soft synthetic material. But the heat has died down and it's still happening, so I'm wondering perhaps if this is the start of perimenopause? (I'm feeling really old now saying this!)

Is there a way that I can tell for certain what my issue is, and also (let's assume it is perimenopause) how I can stop / help ease these awful night sweats?

All I say OP is that I was the same, and started HRT a month ago and the night sweats have stopped. I'm 44.

Should add GP did tests to rule out a thyroid issue, but as that came back clear, she started me on HRT.

Definitely perimenopause symptom. Soz

Thanks for your replies ladies. I honestly don't know that much about peri-menopause at all. Anyone care to enlighten me on how long the night sweats will last, when my periods may start to slow down / become erratic (they've not yet) and what other joys await me? Confused

I'm 43, sweats started a couple of years ago but seem
To have calmed down although sleeping in a different room to husband as I need the window open, sleep in knickers and a vest and can't be doing with a duvet at the moment.

Currently on day 48 waiting for a period, they were always irregular but 36 days max.

Think I need to go and see the gp!

ethelredonagoodday · 05/10/2022 15:44

My periods are still reasonably regular (range from 23-28 day cycle), but are really light and generally amount to about 3 days of what's only just a bit more than spotting.

TheYellowestOfShoes · 05/10/2022 15:48

Classic perimenopause symptom. I had it for a few years... and then it suddenly stopped completely. At first it was hot sweats (which I didn't mind) but later on it was mostly cold sweats (which I hated). I can't have HRT due to breast cancer but at least the sweats stopped happening eventually.

You should check in with the GP just to be safe. But I've had similar and have had other causes ruled out. Also - joint and muscle pain anyone??

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 05/10/2022 16:28

I'm in my 30s and have had them off and on for years. I sometimes have phases of it, sometimes they're a one-off. For me, it's not peri but no idea what it actually IS - just that doctors aren't at all concerned. I should say that I've long had this problem in the 2-3 days leading up to my period too and I sweat quite a bit anyway (though nothing like the drenched pyjama situation that happens through the night).

YorkieTheRabbit · 05/10/2022 16:34

That’s how the peri menopause started for me. I went from ok to dripping wet, it was horrible. At first I put it down to having a really bad cold but the sweats carried on after the cold went.
I tried menopause supplements but they didn’t work for me.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 05/10/2022 16:36

I had them when breast feeding, and again after gynae surgery - I had one ovary removed and it turned out the other was sleeping on the job. HRT for me.

MinnieMountain · 05/10/2022 17:00

My peri-menopause symptoms go through phases. You might start to notice that your sweats are linked to your cycle.

TheOrigRights · 05/10/2022 20:33

Yup. Peri symptom.
I haven't had them for a while, I've moved on of hot flushes now.
There was a period of time when the neighbours must have thought I LOVED washing my bed linen every day!

I had sweats way before periods changed much.
My cycle has lengthened a lot (last one was 68 days, this one is 69 and counting).
Since my cycles have lengthened my sleep has deteriorated. I've had interrupted sleep for a long time, but only recently have I not been able to drop straight back off; I'm often awake for ages now. I'm trying different things to help.
No hair loss or weight gain. Sharp decrease in athletic performance (I run and compete).

These have really worked for me www.vitabiotics.com/products/menopace-night-tablets?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjZrRmevJ-gIVo-jtCh3N5wHhEAAYASABEgKN0vD_BwE
I know they don't work for all but worth a try.

Yup. Intermittently. I went through a phase of feeling my arms would snap when e.g. shaking out the duvet

DoItAfraid · 05/10/2022 22:48

I am 42 and sweating so much as well - like dripping! It is awful.
