Please recommend water proof over mittens

My oven mittens, which still look just fine, are a health hazard. When they get at all wet and I then take something out of the oven my hands get burned. I tried to look up oven mitts that wouldn't do that but I really need a recommendation.

The real problem is when I am making pizza for the family, I need to put one pizza in the oven at a time and because I am adding toppings (they are home made pizzas) I want to wash my hands as well. But then my hands are sometimes still a bit wet and I get burned.

I am confused as to why yours are getting so wet? Mine don’t unless I spill something on them which is rare.

My hands are wet when I wash them after each pizza is made. As I am putting in 4 pizzas one after another in a hurry, sometimes I don't dry them thoroughly.

I've not heard of waterproof oven gloves. I think they would melt?

Mine get wet sometimes as I'm a messy cook so I know what you mean re getting burned. I just get out the spare pair as I have one out and one in the wash.

I have some silicon ones that I bought in Tesco a couple of years ago. Would they work?

CCSS15 · 05/10/2022 14:39

Silicon ones are game changers!

When your hands are wet this is conducting the heat which is why you get burned. You have two options- dry your hands properly or make all the pizzas and then put them in the oven rather than making and washing your hands 4 times.

Thanks so much. I have gone silicone!

@tealandteal Sadly my oven can't fit 4 pizzas at the same time

And actually I also don't have the counter top space for 4 pizzas either!

Use tongs for the toppings?!

gaussian · 07/10/2022 16:22

TheFlis12345 It involves things like breaking mozarella balls into bits and putting on anchovies. Not tong friendly sadly.
