She's paying 90% of Rooneys legal bill. She should have been made to pay 100% in my opinion.

Yeah. I don't really understand why she doesn't need to pay that 10% just because it relates to costs that came at an early stage. Any solicitors able to explain?

I’m not a solicitor, but I read somewhere that Rooney is being made to pay 10% because the judge thought she made a claim that was weak, that Vardy was the S*n’s ‘secret WAG’ columnist, which was not properly backed up, and made a weak argument about the public interest. But 90% is pretty good going!

I with this they would both go away and get a life instead of living vicarously through their husbands.

What has Rooney done other than defend herself in a case she didn't want?

90% is actually massive. A normal rate of cost recovery for a winning party is around 60-70% of costs. 100% absolutely unheard of. This is because the winning party is usually entitled to their “reasonable costs, reasonably incurred”, and the court will always be able to find an aspect of the costs claim that isn’t “reasonable” on some level (eg took too long to do a certain task, or your solicitors charged more per hour or used a more senior person to do something than was strictly necessary).

I have never in my career seen an award as high as 90%. Rooney must have been awarded her costs on the indemnity basis to reflect the fact that Vardy destroyed evidence.

Vardy has already put two barbed posts on her instagram stories that are thought to have been directed at Colleen. The chances of Vardy keeping quiet in the future are slim I reckon.

Does it go to CR or straight to the solicitors?

It’s payment for her legal costs - solicitors and barristers’ fees.

Coleen was the defendant - she wasn’t claiming any money from Vardy.

It is a bit galling when you think the legal system is clogged up with something like this.
However, rich people will always spend their money on vanity projects that look abhorrent to the rest of us who are struggling.

So overall it will end up costing Colleen around half a million if she uses the payment to settle her legal bills.
