Tax free childcare

Hi everyone!

I have a question for anyone who has used the gov tax free childcare. I’ve been trying to add my second child onto the account, my first is still in nursery and only just turned 2.

I added my second and received the message that they are assessing the application and I’ll hear within 7 days, which then passed with nothing and I phoned them, and they said you can’t add a second child whilst you are in a reconfirmation period with your first? As in you have to reconfirm your details every 3 months and if you are in the middle of this you can’t add more children!

so now I have to pay the full bill for October and november because they are due on the first of every month. I’ve read every bit of communication I’ve had from them and couldn’t find any info saying this! Can anyone shed any light on it?

Have you actually reconfirmed? My assumption from reading that is that if you are in a reconfirmation period (the month they give you every 3 months) and you haven't done the reconfirmation, then you can't apply because they have nothing to confirm your new application against your current one. Look to see if you have been asked to reconfirm and the dates. I definitely didn't have this issue adding my 2nd and it was really easy.

I had this with adding my third last year. Cant say I understood it myself!

I reconfirmed a month and half ago so I’m not due to do it again until the 17th November so I’m in the middle of it if that makes sense? I know I can’t understand why it’s so difficult because sorting my first child was simple.
