So a brand new bag on vinted ...buyer claims it's "damaged"

Hi so last week i sold a brand new Zara bag with labels attached
It cost £25 and I sold it for £5
The Royal Mail postage cost me £3.35 but due to vinted Royal Mail pricing she only paid £2.85 and I paid extra.
When she clicks received I'm meant to get the £5 plus £2.85
Last night she messages saying there's a big black mark on bag.
Now luckily I check and take pics of items before I post and there was no mark.
I wrap well in brown wrapping then a padded bag.
She wants me to pay her postage so she can return and refund
(Then obviously I'm gonna get a damaged bag back)
I've said I can't pay for return postage (as on vinted the buyer pays for returns)
So I will of lost it
I'm worried she will leave me bad feedback
The bag was fine when I sent it
She's sent a pic of a black mark on the bag (I think she's did it herself for a refund )

What do I do ?
Would you just pay postage so she can sent it back?

The buyer has to pay return postage that's the policy.
She's s CF.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 05/10/2022 11:13

You can respond to feedback on Vinted (unlike ebay) so if she does leave you bad feedback you can clear it up.

She is a CF, Vinted policies are clear.

quiltcoverss · 05/10/2022 12:45

She hasn't responded since
Checked out her page she is selling all Zara items for £20/£25 so I'm assuming she wants to make as much profit as possible
She asked if I would do a partial refund
It's already a £20 bag for £5

Hi please may I ask why Vinted charge £2.85 when clearly a second class parcel is £3.35 as this happened to me today when I sold something. Seems very pretty to ask for .50p when the buyer has paid on cc.

Flugelbinder · 05/10/2022 12:59

I removed the option of Royal Mail as it’s costs the seller.

Sorry to hear OP. Policies are clear. Tell her you have photos date stamped that show it in perfect condition. CF and I would leave feedback.

HappyHamsters · 05/10/2022 13:02

Can you report her to Vinted if she is a fraud

quiltcoverss · 05/10/2022 13:04

Basically vinted go from the Royal Mail prices online
Also never select to ship a item as a small parcel with RM as they will only give you the large letter price of £2.15 (I think )

OP posts:
quiltcoverss · 05/10/2022 13:04

I have no proof unfortunately that she is
I think she is as the bag I sent was fine no marks etc
She hasn't responded since so maybe realises she won't be getting anything off me without her posting bag back

Just report it to Vinted, they will make a decision. Worst case is you have to refund, but you won't have to pay her to return it.

OneFrenchEgg · 05/10/2022 13:06

I'd start videoing myself packing stuff up. There's so much of this it's ridiculous.

IamChipmunk · 05/10/2022 13:08

I had the same thing recently, brand new bag with tags attached and buyer sent me pics of it coming apart saying it wasnt new. I said clearly my listing pics don't show the damage and show it to be in perfect condition and it wasnt like that when I posted it! (Also wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap) .
She then said she wasnt a liar... so I am?!

I told her to take it up with vinted if she wasnt happy. She didn't and it went through as an auto sale so I got positive feedback...

JustAJokeLikeOnTopGear · 05/10/2022 13:20

If she's selling Zara stuff generally it might be that she's got a damaged one already that she plans to return to you and keep the good one to sell on.

Youg · 05/10/2022 13:24

I’m confused as to why you paid extra?

when I post via Royal Mail, they send me the label and then it sends, never been asked to pay anything extra.

shes responsible for sending it back, then she gets a refund.

Flugelbinder · 05/10/2022 13:29

@Youg

How do Royal Mail send this a label? You have to go to a post office unlike via Evri etc. who do email the label to print and attach.

Bramshott · 05/10/2022 13:35

If you print a label from Royal Mail online for a small parcel up to 2kg it's £2.85. If you go to a Post Office it's £3.35 - I only realised this recently.

Yep this.
And collect from home is free in my area at the moment as well.

I had similar as a buyer. I bought a 'New without tags' Satchel. Was rather surprised to find a bus ticket in the inside pocket. I did message the seller, but as it was cheap and I did like the bag I didn't push it further after their apology, I let it auto feedback rather than leaving any.

Flugelbinder · 05/10/2022 13:42

My bad - didn’t realise re. Royal Mail labels.

Apologies @Youg

goingtotown · 05/10/2022 13:48

If you check & take pics & there were no marks ask her if she wants proof.

Here the 50p difference is the Royal Mails online price

The real problem with Vinteds pricing for Royal Mail is that the sender has to buy postage separately and with other methods Vinted provide a label

Presumably they are paying bulk contract rates per label to couriers and not with Royal Mail, perhaps paying by weight for what passes through when it’s scanned along the way. Vinted may be paying a different amount and winning/losing on the actual cost of individual packages or just making their money on the fee/‘insurance’ charged to buyers

If this picture comes out as readable it’s showing the options that will be given depending on if I chose small, medium or large when listing.
Every option within those has its own dimension rules but are effectively by weight at 0.5kg, 1kg or 2kg

As a seller on Vinted you can’t specify the package specifics - a small size for all other carriers might end up being the large for Royal Mail

The options show why a lot of my sales go via Evri as it’s free or £1.49 irrespective and Royal Mail comes in well for buyers if a ‘small’ but only really works if you can fit it down within inch and it’s very light
(Even just an A4 envelope and printed label take up 20 grams, let alone my preference of wrapping layers of black bin bag and lashings of tape plus whatever bubble wrap etc )

My sending preference is Royal Mail as the garage on the corner has a post office, then Evri as I can use a few shops nearby or 24 hour lockers
With Vinted due to their Royal Mail options I’d prefer Evri, and on eBay where I can specify the right postage I’ll go for Royal Mail then Evri

I think in some cases buyers prefer Royal Mail due to the usual courier problems of missing items on doorsteps, but pick up options may be more convenient to some buyers (and free on Vinted Evri pickup - but that might not be convenient to the buyer)

Ive turned off Royal Mail more than once on my Vinted, but it seems to keep coming back. However I’ve only had to pay the top up once or twice and try to make sure my selling price will give me enough to cover if postage costs me more

i think this pp has it!

Bubbano2 · 05/10/2022 14:07

I had this a few weeks back - Sent a picture frame which was brand new £15 and sold for £5. I wrapped in bubble wrap and then a protective envelope. Got a message saying it had arrived smashed. I apologised and asked for some pictures of it. for it to be returned and I would issue a refund. Never heard anything back, it got marked as delivered automatically and payment was sent to me. Never heard anything again

Use the ‘contact us’ option to raise it with Vinted, as the problem should be damage in transit
