Is Truss even up to the job?

MrsDoyle351 · 05/10/2022 08:43

I watched Channel 4 news last night, and saw Truss being interviewed by Gary Gibbon and she did not come across as someone who is strong and in control of the 'job in hand' (as they like to repeat over and over).

Admittedly I'm not a fan, but she seemed completely and utterly knackered, and not alert /on the ball, as you might expect of the prime minister being interviewed on national TV.

My takeaway from the interview was that the job is simply too big for her, and she is incapable.

Well, duh.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 05/10/2022 09:45

I can't see her lasting much longer.

Her responses to questions seem off the me, like she doesn't know the answer so she repeats a closely related mantra back.

MrsDoyle351 · 05/10/2022 17:16

@wherearebeefandonioncrisps

precisely that - even more so than Boris, who also did that a lot

No

verdantverdure · 05/10/2022 17:27

No. Every time Liz Truss says or does anything confidence in this country crumbles a little more and our mortgages go up.

miceonabranch · 05/10/2022 17:43

She is mediocrity personified. A sad Thatcher tribute act.

Diplidocus4 · 05/10/2022 18:27

No

Bluevelvetsofa · 05/10/2022 18:28

The thinking is that she’ll be gone by Christmas. We can hope.

The only quality she needs is to take the flak while the rest of them get on with tanking our currency and carving up our countryside into investment zones, free ports and fracking sites to sell off to the lowest bidder who bribes them.

blacksax · 05/10/2022 18:32

In a word - no.

Using longer words - hell no.

JudithHarper · 05/10/2022 18:35

I had an open mind and was prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt but no, she is totally out of her depth and simply cannot read the room.

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 05/10/2022 18:40

Is Truss even up to the job?

Nope.

I thought she couldn't be worse but then she kept saying things that aren't true and crashing our economy.

That's an insult to mediocrity. She's worse than scraping the barrel.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/10/2022 20:42

If she goes, will we have another bloody leadership contest, and another 6 weeks fiddling whilst Rome burns.

If she goes we should have an election. 3rd Tory party leader in just over 3 years is crap for the country and not a good look.

Maltester71 · 05/10/2022 20:44

How on Earth did she beat Rishi?

lljkk · 05/10/2022 20:53

tbh, I find LT more entertaining than Johnson. At least she's unfamiliar, and her car crash style has so much potential for entertainment. You can hear the political journalists are drunk with the excitement of how crazy the Tory party conference has been & well, everything has been nutty since 23.9. I luffs political & economic gossip & even I am hitting saturation. MPs are falling over selves at conf. to tell the journos what a disaster the situation is.

I suspect the markets have stabilised so the big harm is behind us. KK is desperate not to crash markets again, so will be "careful enough". Thus the govt will limp along on life support for a few months. I am delighted if the Trickle-down/KK-Truss philosophy is solidly rejected by Tories (& everyone) during this period, too.

Brexit, UKIP, are the gifts that keep on giving, aren't they? This whole crazy situation we are in now is direct descendent of UKIP success in 2014. And Johnson's newspaper lies that made people think the EU was insane. British voters only have selves to blame, though, imho.

shadypines · 05/10/2022 22:12

No. Why does she repeat the phrase 'appalling war in Ukraine' constantly? Is Putin the scapegoat for everything? Has there ever been a war that's NOT appalling? FFS sake I wish she'd either find another adjective or simply say 'war'.
And now bleating on about their really bad decision on high earners tax as a 'distraction'. Not wrong. Not bad. Not poor policy. No. A distraction.
Boris was extremely good at this white washing shite so she's learnt from the master.

notdaddycool · 05/10/2022 22:16

As a life long Tory. Not a chance. I said I’m not sure how anyone could hold their nose and vote for Corbyn last time. I can’t hold my nose and vote for her next time. Not sure I can vote Lib lab either but will abstain as things stand.
Really hoping the Tories get brutal and kick her out. I liked Kemi and Penny, from opposite sides of the party but world respect either.

schoolmum101 · 05/10/2022 22:21

She has no clue. You can see that. If you asked someone a question at work or at school gates or wherever and they came across as she does you'd just relegate their opinion to the nearest bin. She's not a leader. She's a very poor, lower middle manager (if that) with an overblown sense of their own abilities and entitlement. A leader has a vision, feels passionate about it, excited! She just looks for the autocue whilst wearing a strange red dress.

Know how you feel, but… Lots of Americans refused to vote for either Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump, and abstained.

So they got stuck with Trump.

Please find someone to vote for, even if it’s a random independent. When sensible don’t show up, the world gets run by mad people.

goingtotown · 05/10/2022 22:44

NO She's deluded.

Dave20 · 05/10/2022 22:53

Her chancellor gave one speech. With that the pound hit its lowest value in decades, the Bank of England panicked and had to bail the government out.
Interest rates went immediately up, now everyone is going to suffer whether they rent or have a mortgage. Literally anyone that doesn’t live in a home that’s paid off.

The Tories have become reckless. Well not only that but dangerous.

schoolmum101 · 05/10/2022 22:54

whilst i've never been particularly Tory, I see folk like Ken Clarke, heseltine at the conference and my word I'd vote for that flavour of conservative like a shot. Principled, high calibre etc. What we have now is very scary. Not very smart and no sense of right or wrong - just opportunistic.
