Witness for GBH

Without going into too much detail my next door neighbour was assaulted and suffered a broken jaw in 2 places and strangle marks round his neck.
Defendant has been summoned to court next week. This is 13 months after the assault.
If he pleads not guilty it will go to court and I will be a witness, not that I have too much to say because I ran in my house to call 999 but I am still petrified.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Im worried after all this time I cant remember what I said in my statement, im worried about seeing him in court

You can ask for special measures to be put in place, such as a screen so that the defendant can not see you giving your evidence (judge and jury can see you, he couldn’t).
You will also be given a chance to re read your statement at court before you give evidence to refresh your memory as it’s onyl
natirsal after a prolonged period of time to forget some aspects.
It also might be that you don’t get called and nothing is disputed in your statement and nothing needs clarifying.
Id wait and see how the first hearing goes, might be he pleads to a lesser charge etc

I really hope it works out that way.
He is well known in our village and is still drinking in the local pub! He has had several alterations over past few years. Im just dreading it. I feel like there is no way he will plead guilty x

DH once witnessed a similar incident and called the Police. He was told he had to give evidence and they came knocking on our door a few weeks before the trial to make sure he was still going to do it. If he didn’t they were going to subpoena him but luckily he pled guilty at the last minute. It’s scary when they’re local thugs!

Id also rather be paddleboarding! x
