Just asking here for a friend in a difficult positon.
His wife has a medical condition which means she has fits. She gets PIP and he is her carer. Neither of them work, but effectively live on benefits as a result of her disability. They have one child and live in council accomodation with both names on the tennancy. He claims he's had to be SAHD because she can't be left alone with child and PIP reflects this. She disagrees.
She has said she wants to seperate. She doesn't think she needs a carer and thinks he should work, she's not prepared to live like this anymore.
So if they separate what happens about housing?
Will her disability/PIP be considered in the child arrangements? He is arguing that if she now claims she's well enough to be the resident parent, she'll have to admit PiP claim was fraudulent.
As she has the higher income, will she be expected to support him until/unless he finds work?
It's odd, but for a woman who'd given up work to care for sick DH and be SAHM I'd have a lot of sympathy, but this feels different. I'd suggest the woman went to Women's Aid for advice. Where does a man go?
