What's everyone's favourite finger foods at Christmas?

Going up to spend with the in laws this year and have been tasked with bringing some canapé type food for between courses but haven't got any ideas other cheese twists which isn't very Christmassy

Am a bit confused about the idea of canapés between courses........!!

We do platefuls of blinis before lunch. Blini warmed in the oven, with sour cream and smoked salmon on top.

Also butted brown bread works, in the oven to go crispy with salmon and cream on top.

I love blinis with a little brie and cranberry sauce for little canapés. My mum used to do a little cheese tart that was then made into little circles with a cookie cutter that was delicious

Tiny cheese scones with chilli jam and whipped feta.
Blinis, obviously.
mini vegetable tacos made using an upturned muffin pan and a 3 inch cutter
Quails egg with celery salt
coriander king prawn and snow pea skewers.
Stilton and Walnut puffs.

Between courses? How much time is there between courses?

purplecorkheart · 03/10/2022 18:47

Also are you traveling to inlaws on day or will you be able to pre there?

Comedycook · 03/10/2022 18:49

Mini Yorkshire puddings with a piece of rare roast beef and some horseradish

Blinis with sour cream and smoked salmon

Honey and mustard cocktail sausages

Wowzers12 · 03/10/2022 19:09

@purplecorkheart I don't really know. I got the message via DH so who even knows if canapés is what I'm meant to bring 😂 I think it's more just snacks/finger food. We are travelling up same day, car journey is about an hour so not far and can pre cook things to take

Never heard of blinis. Are they basically mini pancakes?

Pretty much. Nigella has a good recipe but to be honest I just buy them. Supermarkets always sell them at Christmas time.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/10/2022 19:12

M&S is your friend.

MintJulia · 03/10/2022 19:13

Little wholemeal flan cases, filled with chopped mushrooms, thyme and a bit of butter, each with a quail's egg baked on top.

Dead easy to make, pretty and delicious 😋

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 03/10/2022 19:14

Bit strange to have them between courses. Sounds like they’ve giving you a ‘job’/busywork! I wouldn’t go OTT on it to be honest!

purplecorkheart · 03/10/2022 19:32

To be honest I would check with the host, the between courses sound a bit odd.

If it is canapes served with drinks you need things that are bite size. I would get mini ready cooked pastry tarts (M&S are a good place to look) and fill with chicken liver pate with a dollop of red onion chutney, could also be done with mushroom pate, Melon cubes on cocktails sticks.

If it is between course I would bring sorbet and place a scoop in rice spoons.

Struggling to imagine a mini taco or a fish skewer between courses during Christmas dinner. Or indeed any thing at all - how many courses are there and why do you need snacks between them?

Wowzers12 · 03/10/2022 20:34

I'm going to get DH to phone this week for further instructions so I know whether they are just for with drinks, between courses or snacks

Indeed. I responded to the title. Canapés between courses? How very modern.

purplecorkheart · 03/10/2022 20:59

Who is going to be making the canapes realistically? If it is going to end up with in lap I would be making the phone call rather than dh. You should not have to but save yourself the stress.

Blinis with smoked sallon, caviar (from lidl)

Mini quiche
