Through the Dragons Eye

Just had a random flashback to a kids educational programme that I remember watching at primary school in the 80s.

I just looked it up on YouTube and it was so cheesy but I remember being absolutely enthralled with it.

Does anyone else remember it?

Magic magic E!

Icecolder · 02/10/2022 21:57

Absolutely loved this at school!

winewolfhowls · 02/10/2022 21:57

Boris Doris and Morris and one of them had an extending cricket bat which seemed perfectly reasonable at the time but now I am a little bit wtf about that little detail

I remember being ill and realising I'd hit the jackpot because it was being repeated. I milked that illness big time to make sure I saw all the episodes that week!

Milkand2sugarsplease · 02/10/2022 21:59

Oh god I LOVED this. We looked forward to traipsing into the telly room at school to watch it as a class.

Yes! What with that and all the public safety information films we used to come home from school traumatised!

OMG those films were brutal. The kid that went on the train tracks and then couldn’t play football any more…

SparklyDiscoBall · 02/10/2022 22:06

I remember it! I remember the theme tune, watching it in the school library, and being a bit scared of it!

TroublesComing32 · 03/10/2022 00:14

Sorry to jump on your thread but you got me thinking…does anyone remember doing these too, if you’re from ‘through the dragons eye’ era, you’ll probably have to scroll to the ones on the 90s.

Some real ear worms in there, I can still remember them now!

Sickandtiredofbeingsick · 03/10/2022 00:17

Yes! I’m 40 and I remember watching this in primary school. I absolutely loved it and a while back rewatched it all on YouTube! 😳🤣

TroublesComing32 · 03/10/2022 00:18

You got like an a4 booklet that opened down the short side and that had all the words in it, then you kinda sang along to a tape….

BadAmbassador · 03/10/2022 00:28

Ooh some of these are reminding me of my first year of teaching in 1993-4, would that be right?

TheLeadbetterLife · 03/10/2022 00:36

Geordie Racer was my favourite, followed by Dark Towers. Through The Dragon's Eye wound me up because a) the lyrics to the theme song were shit* and b) so were the special effects. I could never enjoy things with bad special effects when I was a kid, it shattered the illusion for me.

Geordie Racer was accompanied by a classroom workbook that had translations of Geordie slang. Sarnie=sandwich etc. Brilliant.

*still stuck in my head after 30+ years though: "North or South, East or West, the quest to save the life of Pelamar goes far..."

cariadlet · 03/10/2022 00:49

You lot make me feel so ancient.

I used to show Look and Read to my class when I started teaching 30 years ago.

Magic magic E!

"Shit becomes shite with Magic E!"

I think that's how it went.

There was a flying typewriter daisy wheel who taught punctuation or something as well.

Good times.

😄I remember being so cross that school was closed the day after the hurricane of '87, because we were going to miss Through the Dragon's Eye (and Flyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy) - LOL at the memory of the expanding cricket bat

paddingtoncoffee · 03/10/2022 10:22

This and the BBC micro computer with the large floppy disc game from the show!

CakeIsNotAvailable · 03/10/2022 10:30

I'm 35 and I loved Through The Dragon's Eye and Earth Warp! I found them both quite scary though. Was there a WWII story too? I remember my sister singing a song which went something like "the Chad is on the loose". No idea what a Chad is!

HellaFitzgerald · 03/10/2022 11:41

Who remembers this choon?

CurbsideProphet · 03/10/2022 13:28

@JorisBonson yes The Boy From Space! Wasn't there a scary adult alien who spoke backwards? I remember a lot of over excited shrieking when we watched it at school 😂 and some parents wouldn't even let their children watch it because they had nightmares 😂

JorisBonson · 03/10/2022 16:27

@CurbsideProphet yes!! I may have been one of those children who has nightmares 🤣

Incrediblebuttrue · 03/10/2022 17:57

To be fair...The Boy from Space is still pretty scary now. I also got the impression from these programmes that desolate quarries would play a far larger role in my life than they actually have.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 03/10/2022 18:07

Yes! I remember. We used to get taken into the TV room where there was a big tele on wheels and we’d all sit in the floor and watch. It was so exciting.

bonkersbirdie · 03/10/2022 19:07

I remember magic E and geordie racer too. Was the bird one Kes or am I thinking about something different?

OP posts:
bonkersbirdie · 03/10/2022 19:08

As for when I watched it - it would have been late 80s I think. I'm 40 now so I'd put it around 88-89 maybe. I could be wrong though.
