Acne seems to be starting in 7 year old

Hi, just after some advice from other parents, as I have no idea if I need to be concerned or not.

DD is 7 but only just turned. About a month ago she mentioned having little spots in the creases at the side her nose. Very tiny, look a bit like blackheads. I was a bit surprised but didn't think too much of it. Took a bit more care with face washing. Since then she has been getting actual red spots on her nose, probably has 1 or 2 at a time and also has several on her forehead. Most on forehead aren't as red, and you wouldn't notice them if they weren't raised. It isn't bothering her but I'm worried she will start to become self conscious about it. I'm also worried that she is so young - is it normal to start getting spots at this age and does it mean she is in for having really bad skin as she gets older? I had terrible acne in my 20s and it really affected me so I'm worried for her. 😔

Go to your gp only because if this is the start of a bad acne journey the more you see your gp the better, my mum did nothing about my acne and I was covered in it and at the ripe old age of 30 I went on accutane because I'd had a guts full but I had to pay privately as my mum never sought gp help they had no record of acne on me !

See your GP. It could be something else (eg fungal infection - easily treated)

Thanks very much both of you. I also went on accutane in my 20s after battling it for years.

Didn't realise it could be fungal infection that's interesting. I was wondering about an allergy but nothing has changed in her diet that I can pinpoint. She eats well.

It may be something else and a trip to a pharmacist might put your mind at ease.

My son started getting spots at 7 years old, he is already under a paediatrician for other conditions and when i mentioned I thought he was young they told me it was within normal standards.

It's adrenarche, the few year before puberty where some hormones ramp up.

Time for a good, gentle skin cleansing routine.
