Can anyone recommend a good Greek destination?

The group going is me, DD (12), DS (15), and my mother (73). My mother is fit but has a knee that sometimes gives her trouble so we can’t be on a steep hill. All love swimming, all like museums and things - want a holiday with a mixture of walking and seeing things, and reading on a beach or in a cafe.

Please does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve googled but don’t know where to start. Thank you!

I would recommend Paros or Naxos - both beautiful with stunning beaches and nice places to eat and historical sites to visit, but much more authentic than Santorini or Mykonos which are both spoilt and overrun.

I would say Rhodes, either staying near the Old Town, or Lindos which is only an hour away by bus but has better beaches. Both are very accessible.

Thanks! I’ll have a look at all of these. The journeys to Naxos and Paros seem odd - they’re trying to fly me via Munich to get to Athens for the third leg, but I’ll see if I can find a flight with just an Athens stop.

Lindos looks great too, I’ll keep looking at hotels there.

I'm in Crete in a lovely small town near Chania right now & it's beautiful. I recommend it!

Kefalonia, lots of history and beautiful, plenty of direct flights from UK.

Qwerkie · 02/10/2022 10:53

I found Rhodes very disappointing when I went, there are much better places to go, Crete and kefalonia are great

I stayed in Crete in at Stella Palace beautiful hotel and fab new water park. They do a football club one for kids and for adults which is all free.

However the area is remote unless your willing to get a cab out!
The beaches were not V good either.

@SommerTen what a view!

We have just been to Tsilivi in Zante.
Lovely beach, clear waters and stays shallow for quite a while.
Lots of restaurants, shops and bars on two main streets, one of which is entirely flat, other is up a hill but not too steep and there’s so much there that if you got accommodation on the lower street you don’t even need to visit the top.
About 30 mins transfer from airport.
good options for day trips - lots of boat trips, coach trips and local buses into the capital which is about 20 mins away.
loads of direct flights from across UK

If you’re looking at Rhodes, Pefkos is also good. Next resort over from lindos

That's Falassarna beach in Crete

JacketPocket · 02/10/2022 20:54

Oh my god, @SommerTen , that looks incredible.

Thanks everyone! I’ll look at all of these.

Rhodes I agree was disappointing

Skiathos is my favourite place in the world

Crete - varied with busy and quiet parts. Knossos worth a trip
Kefalonia - absolutely beautiful!
Skopelos- small but gorgeous
