(Light hearted before anyone complains)
Used to love the monthly coffee and cake voucher. If they don't do it anymore.
This month I have a voucher for two slices of cake. Which is no use to me. But my friend has a coffee and voucher!! Why haven't I got one?!! It's not fair!!

My nearest JL is an hour away, so it would be no good to me !

ImAvingOops · 02/10/2022 08:14

Lots of the nice stuff is going. Most credit card companies have reduced the value of their vouchers.
I used to love getting the free coffee on Waitrose and then mooching around doing my food shop. But Covid was a good excuse for them to stop doing it.

Clawdy · 02/10/2022 08:46

Used to get coffee and cake vouchers sent through the post regularly - so easy! Now you need the JL app, which my phone can't take. So annoying! And the reward offers of perfume and makeup samples seem to have gone completely anyway. Such a shame.

TessIRX · 02/10/2022 08:53

I’ve just got a drink and cake voucher through on the app. It used to be every month and I’d always pop into the store and then buy stuff, so definitely a win for JL 😂

Discodreams · 02/10/2022 08:59

I used to love our monthly vouchers. It was such a highlight in my month. Our local one didn’t reopen after lockdown though and the next nearest is an hour away.

GoldenElephant · 02/10/2022 09:07

I recently started getting a coffee and cake voucher, after two years of not receiving one despite spending a fortune there through lockdown. But DH now gets ‘two cakes!’

Lookingformymarbles · 02/10/2022 09:21

I've just received the 2 free hot drinks but I rarely visit my nearest JL as parking is ridiculously expensive and I rarely find what I want in the rest of shops in the (v busy) city centre.

Definitely miss the free coffee in Waitrose though which I visit an awful lot more-it was my treat, would do the shop, buy a pastry then sit quietly with coffee & pastry reading their paper. My local Waitrose had high stools to sit on pre covid. If these weren't free, I'd sit in my car.

No coffee and cake vouchers for years now. Not in the post. Not in the app.

I hardly shop there these days anyway. I am back to work and no longer have the time. Went in there with DD to pick some things up for her to take to Uni. She remarked that they would be out of business in 10 years or much changed.

The stores look down at the heal, the quality of the goods has fallen and the service has dropped, and much isn’t in stock.

Department stores are a declining business. Online sellers have weakened them. They haven’t found their new niche.

LadyDespair · 02/10/2022 09:40

I got a coffee and cake one last month and every time I went there (after work) there was no cake left!

A few months ago I got one for two hot drinks. I was on my own so just ordered one, and they wouldn’t let me use the voucher. I just ended up including the pot of tea for the lady behind me in the queue. It’s a bit daft

PriamFarrl · 02/10/2022 09:44

I never used to get them, but my husband did. So I had his card too and used his vouchers. I questioned it a few times but never got a reason.

PriamFarrl · 02/10/2022 09:46

I’ve just been onto the app and there isn’t any cake and coffee voucher.

fnfnf · 02/10/2022 09:49

I got the two slices voucher as well, and used it yesterday. My nearest JL is a 5-minute walk, which is very handy!

Used to use the Waitrose free coffee, too, but no longer live near a Waitrose so not too bothered about that going.

Icequeen01 · 02/10/2022 10:58

I haven't had any for about 4 years now and no idea why they stopped. I'm on the app and did phone them once to find out why I stopped receiving them. Can't remember what they said now but I still don't get them and feel very heated as I spend a fortune in there!

I've also just received a letter from Sainsbury's saying they will soon be dropping the nectar card points from 1 point per £1 to 1 point per £2.

FayeGovan · 02/10/2022 11:07

Ive had 2 cake and coffee wouchers recently and enjoyed using them . Also got a discount on top of make up that was already discounted so that was decent.

I think the offers are great.

FayeGovan · 02/10/2022 11:08

Vouchers of course

I used to be a manager of a JL Store. The coffee and cake vouchers were initally a briliant idea for loyal customers. Sadly Martin Lewis highlighted them as great way to get a free monthly treat and suddenly it had over 3 million 'members'. On any one day we would have 100's of people forming huge queues in the cafes and only coming in to the store for the freebie and then leaving. After 18 months of this the system was changed and the vouchers only went to people who had bought something in the previous 3 months.

The catering staff really hated them as the 'voucher customers' were always the rudest and kicking off that we would accept expired vouchers or they couldn't have a free sandwhich instead as "I don't like cake". There was a huge celebration when they scrapped them.

woodhill · 02/10/2022 11:25

I love the cake and coffee reward and always use it

woodhill · 02/10/2022 11:28

Yes fair enough about the people who are not genuine customers

I am a regular shopper Waitrose and JL

I tend to buy from JL online mainly as nearest store is in London

FayeGovan · 02/10/2022 11:33

I heard the waitrose staff hate the coffee machines too as they are usually next to customer service desk and they need to top them up and clean them as well as deal with folk asking for extra cups sugar etc

Icequeen01 · 02/10/2022 18:08

@FitAt50 I totally get that some people would just go in for their free coffee and cake and leave without buying and how annoying that would be but I have bought bespoke curtains, furniture, clothes and jewellery from there and not received any vouchers at all. It must be just me!
