ANOTHER Vinted question about buyer returning an item

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 18:50

Hi,

I have sold loads of things on Vinted and I’ve always had 5* feedback, literally never had an issue. A buyer has contacted me today to say an item she has received has stains on the front (I checked the item before sending and I’ve checked photos of the item and can’t see any). She also says the item is not as described (it’s a 14 which is what i wrote in the description but she says as it’s an American brand it’s actually a uk 10) which I suppose is fair enough, I didn’t realise I was just raiding my wardrobe, saw it was a 14 and put that in the description.

i have apologised for the issue with sizing and also explained i checked the item thoroughly and did not see any stains. She has quite a bad attitude and has been very rude on messages which there is no excuse for. I’ve asked her to send the item back and I will refund. She is refusing to pay postage back and says she shouldn’t have to. To be honest for the sake of a few quid I’ll pay the postage, she’s told me she’s giving me a chance to do the ‘right thing’? I’ve explained i’m not some chancer, I’ve not had an issue before and have apologised numerous times but to be honest her rudeness and bad attitude is pissing me off now.

is there a way for me to prepay the postage? Or should I just let her click I have an issue and just go through the system and take a hit on the negative feedback?thanks

I'd do it through vinted so it's all documented. To be fair she did have an issue - you advertised something as the wrong size.
As the seller you can reply to feedback so if she leaves you any you can put your reply on there.

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 18:56

i do understand why she’s got an issue but in my defence, it says size 14 on the label, didn’t say anything about uk/us size it literally says 14. I’m a size 14/16 and it fits me. She’s saying she’s tried it on and it’s much too small and that i should have advertised it as a 10?!? But it says 14 on the label

For the sake of a few quid I would definitely just pay the return postage and just kill her with kindness while rolling your eyes. She's an awkward customer but i wouldn't get sucked into it. Send the postage by bank transfer if that shuts her up!
Positive feedback is more important and the people who tend to maintain 100% or close to that are those that can bite their tongue and take a 'customer is always right' kind of attitude

Barleysugar86 · 01/10/2022 19:02

The comments about sizing don't make sense- US sizing is smaller eg size 0 there is size 4-6 here, a size 14 US would be a UK 18.

I always loved buying my clothes out there because instead of buying a size 12 or 14 I'd be buying an 8 or a 10 :)

cherrypiepie · 01/10/2022 19:05

It's horrible when this happens. I had one that claims it smelled of smoke- really obscure. Also a pair of expensive boots for a really low price that are totally broken when they got them. I've sold over 200 items! Two returns so not bad going.

What brand is it?

I always take pictures of the size label so there is no ambiguity.

It's such an easy mistake to make. Not that you made a mistake in reality.

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:06

That’s actually true @Barleysugar86!!! I never thought of that, of course that’s the case I should have known that I’ve also enjoyed buying size ‘10’ clothing when I was on holiday in New York 🤣.

Now I’ve clicked it’s obvious she’s trying to pull a fast one. She said about the stains and the size and I said I check everything thoroughly before sending and she said even if that stains weren’t there I wouldn’t have had it if I’d have known it wasn’t the size advertised? She’s basically saying she’s tried it on and it’s too small, that’s not my fault is it?

Yeah it’s made me feel a bit rubbish to be honest. If it was a genuine issue I’d be absolutely mortified. Especially in this climate I would never want it to look that I’m trying to scam anyone which is totally her attitude towards me, very accusatory. I paid £120 for the coat, wore it for one holiday and it’s been sat in my wardrobe for over a year, I sold it for a tenner just to get rid. Of course a tenner is a tenner especially if you’re skint it’s a weeks worth of food (I’ve been there!) but at the same time her tone is uncalled for

She's trying it on.

If she wants to return she can pay return postage. That is Vinted policy.

I've bought loads that doesn't fit (my size, different shops fit differently these days!) and I just accept it and sell it on myself!

It's not a shop she can't buy, try on then return.

Ask for proof of the stains and then compare to your photos.

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:12

If she goes through Vinted and says it wasn’t as described (either with the apparent stains or with the sizing) will they just say she has to pay for postage? I’m worried if I ask for photos she’ll just stain it anyway? I’ve had another look at photos and genuinely cannot see any stains anywhere and I had a really good look at it before I sent it

OP posts:
eatsleeprepeat123 · 01/10/2022 19:14

What did the label say size wise? Did it just say 14, or US 14?

They will say she pays return postage. There's no option in the app to pay for return postage, and don't do through PayPal as she could easily not send it back.

eatsleeprepeat123 · 01/10/2022 19:15

RE stains she could add them, but if it's obvious that her photos are different to yours (I.e. she's added them) then hopefully Vinted will see this!

What's her feedback like on her profile? Anyone said she's done this before?

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:18

It literally just said 14 on a little tag under the brand label? She’s replied saying it’s not as described due to the staining and due to this she wants her money back. I can’t be bothered to argue with her, I KNOW it wasn’t stained but can’t really see how I can prove this. I’ll just tell her to go through Vinted and I’ll take the hit on my feedback. It will only be one bad one out of loads of 5*. Plus I’ve pretty much sold everything I own anyway 🤣

OP posts:
FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:18

She has 5* feedback as well

OP posts:
FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:20

And I’ve looked back at her feedback and it goes back a couple of years

OP posts:
Backmebring · 01/10/2022 19:20

How much did you sell it for? Might be worth just giving her an entire refund. I can’t be arsed with chancers, I refund and move on with my life.

eatsleeprepeat123 · 01/10/2022 19:20

Well if it says 14 she has no proof it's a US 14 then surely?

Just make her pay the return postage, and see if it's actually stained I guess! If not hopefully you can sell on. She should have to prove to Vinted it's stained for returning I think.

Banana2079 · 01/10/2022 19:25

A lovely seller sent the postage back ( and I didn’t want it ir ask for it ) by sending 3 pound coins taped to a bit of card lol

there isn’t any way of paying postage for the buyer via vinted but you could send it to her PayPal account- ask her for the email address associated with her PayPal account
if she don’t have a PayPal just send it to her email it will go through once she sets one up using that email

I love Vinted but hate the fact buyers have to pay return postage for items that are not as described
regardless of the stains your item was not as described as you listed the size incorrectly

as for her being rude ignore it and just send her return instructions offer the postage back via PayPal and be done with it
if you leave her neg feedback you can do it in return

FuckinHooray · 01/10/2022 19:25

A tenner. Yeah might just refund it. Don’t really need the hassle for enough going on. Pisses me off but don’t really want her to have my address and name, I have a really unusual surname and maybe I’m paranoid but I’ve looked at her profile and she only lives about 20 minutes up the road in the next city 🙈

OP posts:
cherrypiepie · 01/10/2022 19:27

Also...

If you send her a message saying she can have a refund if she returns it if she pays postage and send your address she only has 72 hours to send it.

Then You can ask vinted to intervene and they will (hopefully)side pay you.

This happened to me.

Banana2079 · 01/10/2022 19:27

Sorry meant if she leaves it

FuckinHooray · 03/10/2022 20:43

Just an update on this, I messaged the buyer and said I would pay return postage if she let me
know how much postage cost her, she said she didn’t know how much she said paid? So I asked her to look at her payment history and see and let me know and i Would PayPal her enough to cover it.

She never replied and now the balance has automatically been transferred onto my account. She hasn’t left any feedback as of yet nor has she replied to me so not sure if something has happened, or she was trying to pull a fast one?

OP posts:
mrsjimhopper · 03/10/2022 20:56

It sounds like she didn't click I have an issue button and then it has auto completed after 48 hours. If she'd clicked this it would have gone into suspended until It was resolved.

It's on as she didn't follow the very simple rules. If she leave poor feedback you can ask for it to be removed and as you have a record of the offer you made her it should be upheld (never had to do this though)

Honestly vinted is a bit of a gamble and sometimes i get nice stuff and sometimes I get stuff I'm not 100% but I never complain ask for. A refund- life's too short really.

Also sure there are some that are scams.

FuckinHooray · 03/10/2022 21:02

Thank you! That’s good to know I can get the feedback removed, I was thinking I might just block her. But not sure if that’s a bit extreme 🤣
