Good Crispy Chips in Air Fryer?

I have recently bought a multi cooker and I’m really enjoying cooking with it. Today I tried to make some chips using the air fryer function and was disappointed by how they turned out.

I cut up two large maris piper potatoes into chip shapes with the skin still on and coated them in 2 tbps of oil. I put them in the air fryer for 10mins at 200 degrees, shook them around and cooked them for another 10mins. Shook them again and then cooked them for anther 5mins. They were cooked all the way trough but only the ends were crispy, the middle was soggy. I couldn’t have cooked them for any longer or they would have burned.

Does anyone have a good method for making really nice crispy chips in the air fryer? Or any advice to make the chips better?

Soak them in a bowl of cold water fir 10 minutes, drain and they dry them in a clean tea towel. Put a table spoon of oil and some seasoning in a bowl mix the chips in so they are all coated with oil and them add them to the fryer. Soaking in water removes some of the starch.

I love my air fryer but chips go in the deep fat fryer every time.

This is my go to oven chip recipe (though nothing compares to properly fried chips). Parboiling the potatoes in salted water makes the texture better, as well as seasoning the chips internally which makes them tastier. More effort, but well worth it for the end product.
