Bed bugs - help please!

I got back from holiday last weekend and I'm pretty sure the hotel we stayed in had bed bugs. The bites didn't show up on me until this morning so I hadn't taken any extra precautions to not bring them into my home and now I'm panicking. The friend I shared a room with also has bites and it seems unlikely to be anything else.

I haven't actually seen any bugs or evidence of them in my house (blood/poo on the sheets) but it's crazy to assume they haven't gotten onto my clothes/suitcase isn't it?

I've now washed all my clothes and bedding at 60 degrees. Almost everything has been run through the tumble dryer too. I've steamed the mattress, protector, pillows and duvet. I've cleaned all around the bedroom and tried to get into all the nooks and crannies.

I've bought bed bug spray and diatomaceous earth, arriving tomorrow.

I've read that bites can take up to two weeks to show, so I guess I won't really know if I have them at home for another week? Unless I see anything before then.

I'll probably call in pest control if I'm still getting bitten after next week but keen to attack things myself before then.

Is there anything else I should be doing? I am desperate to get rid of them soon to avoid a larger infestation.

Bed bugs show up straight away. If you've been bitten you'll know it. My DD is currently battling with them after she moved into a brand new flat! They're not in her room but after the first night her flat mate woke covered in little red bites, and saw the beasties too.
Personally I wouldn't wait to call a reputable company. They got straight onto their landlord who has taken action, but sadly the first round of treatment hasn't knocked the problem on the head. Good luck!

I think they live 'in furniture' if that makes sense. So you are unlikely to have brought them home with you from holiday.

I had bites once from a downmarket hotel/hostel in India. The bites came up straightaway all over abdomen - extremely itchy. You'd know about it straightaway. Are you sure it's bed bugs from the holiday? Or maybe a flea infestation in your house after you've been away?
