Does anyone have a smart meter which is Itron - orange circle button and two blue triangle buttons? Is it a Pay As You Go meter?

Really confused so appreciate any help.
Scottish Power installed smart meters for us a couple of weeks ago. I'm a direct debit customer, never had a PAYG meter. Gas one is fine and I found the model on the Scottish Power website with instructions on how to read it.

The electric meter doesn't appear on their website (they have several brands and pictures but none is an Itron EM425).

I don't know how to read it but have pressed a couple of buttons and got a bit worried as nothing seemed to look like a normal meter reading.

I googled Itron Scottish Power smart meter and this came up:
www.scottishpower.co.uk/energy-efficiency/smart-meters/reconnect-your-meter/electricity

it's the last one on the page. Is this a Pay as You Go meter? They shouldn't have installed it, if so!
My account on the SP website had a message saying something like 'service disruptions mean we can't get a reading' or similar - that message has now disappeared but I don't have a bill and the amount shown is very small (but not updated anyway).

Does anyone have one of these meters that acts as an actual Smart Meter? Have they screwed up? Either way there is a problem as the data about my usage isn't being transmitted to Scottish Power. I can't call until Monday and their chat is awful, just bots.

Bump - I'm starting to worry slightly that I could get cut off if it is a PAYG and I don't know how to use it! Obviously the energy co should know I'm on a direct debit tariff etc but I don't trust any of them to do the sensible thing!

Found this

Thanks - that looks like it's instructions for reading Export i.e. if you're sending energy back to the grid? Mine says 'Imp Act' which suggests it's what I'm importing.

Could you let me know the link of where you saw that? I'm scratching my head as to why it appears on the SP website as a PAYG meter.

Ah you're right about the export reading
Does your import reading make sense in terms of readings?

Redora · 01/10/2022 13:02

Yes - although it had something like £0.93 or -£0.93 which worried me slightly as there shouldn't be any account balance etc info on the meter? I got worried about pressing the buttons at random so left it.

Might it just be showing how much you have used today in £s and pence rather than it being an account balance

Amy smart meter can be a PAYG meter. If you're in debt to an energy company, they can switch it remotely to PAYG.

Redora · 01/10/2022 13:22

Thanks Jackie that's good to know!
I'll just have to call them on Monday. I have got the message back now that says 'we are sorry we are currently experiencing technical difficulties which is impacting how we display the energy consumption information in your account, so we have temporarily switched it off.' etc.

I don't know if that's related to the meter not being one shown on their website or not, but at least I now have a figure for today.

Thought the smart meter was supposed to make life easier. I don't even know if they have updated the tariff to October prices on my in-home device thing.

So turns out you can't ring Scottish Power - they just hang up after telling you to use the chat - and the chat just gives you preset categories that are irrelevant. So there is literally no way to contact them to ask. If anyone has a phone number that isn't the main customer services number I'd appreciate it!?

Maybe try twitter. They don't like it when other people can see your concerns with them
