child friendly graffiti art - spray chalk? Airbrush kit?

I'd like to create some graffiti art with some children I work with.

Ordinary spray paint isn't suitable, but ideally the children (actually teens with learning disabilities) will feel as though they doing something as close as possible to "real" graffiti, and the end product will be something they can feel proud of and that we can display.

We'll be painting onto canvas or big poster sized sheets of paper.

Has anyone done this woth their own kids or at work?

What would you recommend?

Air brush kits that use pens (I think the experience won't win them over though the end result might be better)?

Spray chalk (I think the experience will feel "authentic" but they might be disappointed with the colours/ end result)?

Any better suggestions?
