Posting here for shameless traffic.

Dd (3) trapped her fingers in a door on Tuesday.

Urgent care on Wednesday for an X-ray, no break seen, cuts dressed and sent home.

Since then every night she's woken screaming and crying in pain for at least an hour and then on and off all night.

She's been holding her arm up because of the bandage and I think the pain she's getting is her arm going numb from holding it like that. During the day when she's distracted it's better as she's up and holding it more naturally, but at night she's literally holding it in the air.

This morning she's now refusing to eat, drink, toilet or put her arm down. She's just crying or cuddling me.

We're exhausted!

What do I do? I can't force her to put her arm down, she's not doing it herself, it's shaking she's held it up so long.

Can a&e sort out a dead arm? Is she damaging herself like this? Why won't she put her arm down?

Is the bandage around her fingers? I'm guessing it's just a sensory issue as to why she's holding it up at night?

Is she able to communicate whether the pain is in her arm or fingers?

Bandage is on 2 fingers.

She just says the whole arm hurts or that it will bleed if she puts her arm down. She's been biting her wrist too.

She's calm at the moment but still refusing to eat, drink or go to the loo.

Tbh I've been wondering if she might be ND and whether this is something. No matter what we say she won't put her arm down.

Is it going to cause serious damage?

I’d take the bandage off and look at the wound, it might be infected.

I’d also consider giving her some Calpol so that she will eat/drink/toilet this morning.

I can't imagine it'll do her any harm. I'd take the bandage off too. Show her it's not going to bleed.

I've tried to take the bandage off and she won't let me. Planned to do it while she slept last night but she didn't much.

She literally screams and cries. She done a wee now but still refusing to come and eat.

I'm soooo tired. This behaviour is becoming more often. She's refusing to poo at the moment. She's refusing medical help too. We had to basically hold her down to get the x ray.

I just don't know what to do. Do I hold her down and take the bandage off, not sure I can even do that.

I've just now got her settled enough so I can eat.

Can you bribe her to take it off or distract her and do it when she's really engrossed in something?

Or play doctors and nurses and try that way:

Tried. I even said she could take my plaster off my foot first to see how it happens.

The night she did it, I had to clean and dress the cuts while she slept. At the hospital I had to hold her down while the nurse did it.
