Am I overthinking this?

D's due to sit entrance exam for private secondary school. Not in IUK, choices are extremely limited.
On website exam always advertised as being 9 am.

Received confirmation of exam and told DC is in second sitting of exam in early afternoon .

Criteria for allocating spaces if oversubscribed is very specific and you are at an advantage if you have previous connection to school. We don't so would be at the bottom of the list.

Spoken to a few parents whose children are sitting the exam and all sitting in the morning. They all have children at the school already or fall within the higher criteria for acceptance.

I originally thought maybe there would be smaller numbers in the afternoon and this would probably be better for DC.

Now wondering if I should have asked for him to sit in the morning and whether DC being in the afternoon group is a sign that I f the school is oversubscribed they won't get a place.

I doubt they would differentiate between sessions. I imagine most people prefer the morning session as it gets it done quicker with less time to stew. It's a bit like nursery school, morning sessions are always more popular but some prefer afternoon for their own reasons.
