pet adult rat did something strange

ive had her for 16 months and last night she was laying on her hammock looked like she was asleep and her whole body jumped never seen this before it was weird is it something to be worried about has anybody seen this with theyre rats

Possibly just dreaming. They're intelligent so presumably they dream in the same way that dogs and humans do and their nervous system reacts to the dream.

I've kept rats for years and they do spook very easily. It's possible they startles themselves awake or heard an unexpected noise that disturbed them whilst dozing. One of my 3 will jump impressively up in the air when anyone opens a soda can for example.

Rats also get hiccups which makes them quiver and jump.

Dh does this when he's very tired 🤣
