Dishwasher driving me mad!!

dishwasherfrenzy · 28/09/2022 13:50

Please help me with this nightmare dishwasher! I thought it would make life easier!!
I put it on - I've tried ALL settings and different tablets.
I have put salt in the part salt should go in. And rinse aid etc. I clean the filter regularly.
everything still comes out manky.
With little bits on like everything is covered in sand!!!
Then I have to hand wash everything.
I also use a dishwasher cleaner every month too!
Why is this happening..?!?!

What make of dishwasher is it?
What programme do you run?
What dishwasher tablets do you use?

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/09/2022 14:18

It may be a plumbing issue - low water pressure?

gordonsq · 28/09/2022 14:19

Mine too OP. I think the outlet drain may be partially blocked as there is sometimes water left in the bottom after a cycle. I've been meaning to call someone out. (If it wasn't an integrated dishwasher I'd probably pull it out and try to unblock the outlet myself, but getting behind it is hard work)

No advice, but I'm interested as I've always had the same issue with mine!

Lonecatwithkitten · 28/09/2022 14:23

Take arms out and check if any of the water outlets are blocked.
Having cleared them run the dishwasher on a hot wash with dishwasher cleaner.

Cornishbelle · 28/09/2022 14:30

Mine is exactly the same dh blamed it in kids putting weetabix bowls in there but now not so sure!

JadeSeahorse · 28/09/2022 15:15

We have been having this issue for a few weeks! I too did everything OP has done and am pretty clued up with dishwashers as been having them continuously since 1986.

Thankfully still under guarantee so called about repair. Man came out and said there is an issue with the spray arms not running fast enough plus there is some sort of back stop - no idea what it is called - which isn't catching correctly.
All replacement parts ordered and being fixed first week in October. (However, weirdly it has been fine since repair man came out even before the new parts are installed.🤔)

gordonsq · 28/09/2022 16:23

OP your post has prompted me to get round to calling someone out about mine. He's coming tomorrow so I'll let you know what he says!

Definitelymabel · 28/09/2022 16:25

It’ll be the spray arms for sure. Take them off and fill them under the tap from the centre. All the holes that don’t squirt out jab lots with a pin. Then keep flushing and tipping upside down to empty multiple times. Be amazed at all the gunk that emerges.

ProlificInProfanity · 28/09/2022 16:27

Have you removed and cleaned the filter?

dishwasherfrenzy · 29/09/2022 08:07

I removed and clean the filter every couple of days. But I don't know what spray arms are. I'll have to have a look in a bit and see. And I'll check for the outlet blockage that some of you have mentioned.
I have tried every wash cycle and it still happens.
The only time it does a decent wash is re wash right after I've used the cleaner. The cleaner you put in with no dishes in and run a cycle. But then after that it's the same.
I'll check which tablets we use. We've tried different ones and the tablets we use now have been the best ones (part powdered/part gel) but these last few weeks have been really bad and nothing seems to be clean.

If you’re using the all in one tablets you don’t need salt and rinse aid.

dishwasherfrenzy · 29/09/2022 08:46

It's the Ariel all in one tablets

OP posts:
hedgehoglurker · 29/09/2022 08:54

Ariel is for laundry, not dishwashers.

Seeline · 29/09/2022 08:59

It's the Ariel all in one tablets

Ariel?

In your dishwasher?

That'll be your problem!

WithIcePlease · 29/09/2022 09:00

Agree with cleaning out spray arms. Mine on 4 dishwashers I've owned are easy enough to remove, although the one for top tray is trickier than the one at the bottom. They basically unscrew

Put water feed hole in the middle under running water and see if water squirts out evenly through all the holes. Mine have been blocked by bits of food, usually something fibrous but small bits of bone occasionally and I have had to use a sharp implement to pull it through the holes at times. It's quite satisfying!

dishwasherfrenzy · 29/09/2022 09:01

Sorry I meant Fairy!!! 😂
Don't know where I got Ariel from?!?!

OP posts:
dishwasherfrenzy · 29/09/2022 09:02

Fairy original all in one! 😂

hedgehoglurker · 29/09/2022 09:04

Find the manual for your dishwasher, online if necessary. There will be a maintenance section which shows how to remove and clean the spray arms. The top one usually unscrews and the bottom one might just pull up and out.

user6497219 · 29/09/2022 09:05

Is it heating properly, are the tablets being dissolved, though it is much more likely a blockage somewhere

warofthemonstertrucks · 29/09/2022 09:07

Mine is the same. I just concluded that all dishwashers were rubbish in the end to some degree and mine is especially poor.

user6497219 · 29/09/2022 09:08

Try a liquid detergent, Finish do one, not sure if Fairy do and see if the same happens

Fraaahnces · 29/09/2022 09:10

the spinner arms need to be cleaned. They get random bits of shit like rice, corn, eggshell, etc stuck in them. I find that fishing it out with a pin works for me, as well as filling them up with water and quickly tipping it out through the centre hole.

onmywayamarillo · 29/09/2022 09:16

There are setting for the salt depending if you live in hard/soft water area
Yours might not be set correctly

It's in the manual

user6497219 · 29/09/2022 09:17

When you take the spinner arms out put some descaler through them in case there is any scale in there, descaler used for kettles will be the right stuff to use
