My ex partner pawned my iPad that I'm still paying monthly for. He didn't ask me first, he just said he was short on cash so he took it to cash converters. I only got it in May this year! :(

How did he get access to it? Did he break into your home and steal it? If so surely it’s a police matter.

It’s yours and in your name? You have all the paperwork? Tell him to get it back or you’re reporting it to the police as theft.

Theoretically I think you could say he stole your iPad so you could report him to the police. They might seize the iPad but would keep it as evidence.

So he's stolen it? You could report it as stolen to the police. This would damage any relationship but if he's taken it without your consent that's the relationship damaged already. What did he use the money for?

Are you insured? If you report it to the police and get a case number you can claim on the insurance.

Do you know which pawn shop? Get in touch with them as I'm pretty sure they won't want to be handling stolen goods.

Contact the police. Report it stolen, tell them where it is and give them copy of receipt/ credit agreement. They will give you a crime ref, phone cash converters, tell them it's stolen and give them the crime reference number, they won't be able to sell it and you'll get it back eventually.

Your ex will say that you gave it to him, keep any evidence to the contary, text messges etc.

Tell the pawn shop they have stolen property and that you have informed the police, and if they get rid of it they will be guilty of knowingly handling stolen goods.
The iPad won't be kept as evidence permanently, you will get it back. It may take a while but the police don't keep stolen property as evidence for ever.

If someone stole something from me, I wouldn’t be posting on here wondering if I would get it back.
If I was feeling in a nice mood I might tell the thief they have an hour to get it back or they can deal with the police.
Not so nice would be calling the police and giving them the name.

Whatever relationship you had has already been damaged. Not by you but by them stealing from you. Any trust you may have had is already gone.

Go to Cash Converters, tell them it's been stolen from you, and show them any documentation you have showing it's yours (loan agreement?).

If that doesn't work, call the police.

Yeah. Report it as theft.

Also if you report it to apple they can lock it remotely to stop anyone else using it.
