Just a random thing

I didn't know this was happening, did they keep it quiet to avoid crowds? Wish I'd seen it.

Also, didn't realise QC automatically becomes KC. Thought it would depend when you qualified. Only realised seeing Starmer listed as KC.

still seems like strange days.

Yes, I was quite pissed off that it didn't seem to be publicised as I would have gone and watched it if I'd known.

I live near St Katherine's Dock where Gloriana (the Queen's barge) has been kept since the Platinum Jubilee and noticed that the day after her death, it had gone from its mooring. I guessed something was going to happen with it but assumed maybe it would be part of the funeral or something related. So rather frustrating!

EmmaH2022 · 28/09/2022 00:05

Hundred oh, so locals didn't know either? I'm in North London.

they must have been trying to avoid crowds, i guess security have had a hard time lately!

I dont know if KC was actually automatic - there were confirmatory tweets on the day, it was certainly quick!

Oh I didn't see that but I was pretty much in a daze

Hundred do you know if the barge will return to the dock?

I'm going to have a wander round the dock in the next day or two (I'm just recovering from surgery so been confined to the sofa but hoping to be back on my feet very soon) and see if Gloriana has returned.

KC makes sense to me, as complete layperson... they serve the crown, who is currently a king.

bellac11 · 28/09/2022 10:53

What a disappointment, is it on recording anywhere I like this sort of thing

Yes all the barristers we use were KCs after she died.

thereisonlyoneofme · 28/09/2022 12:54

There was a procession and no one knew, not mentioned in the news or in the papers ?

EmmaH2022 · 28/09/2022 13:01

Hundreds wish you a speedy recovery

KC - yes, I do see the logic, it just feels a bit "woah".

I'm not much of a media person so I was curious to see if others knew about this event. If they didn't want to deal with the crowds, you'd hope there'd be some video?

I don't think it's an official event but the King's Bargemaster was there. Looks very unusual and beautiful.

@EmmaH2022 Thank you!!

I found Gloriana at St Katharine's Dock this afternoon although not in her usual mooring. You couldn't actually get close to her as she was moored behind a restaurant that had big metal barriers closing it all off. Very weird. I assume it's just a temporary mooring and she'll move back to her usual mooring near the Dickens Inn at some point.

Strange the event wasn't really publicised. I didn't see any mention in the local press which is unusual. Nor did I hear anything on the grapevine - I used to row for a club in east London so know some of the rivermen and their families as it's a close knit community (some of these will have been the Doggetts men rowing the barge - or work with them) but perhaps I missed any news by being in hospital.

Such a shame as it looks marvellous and I would love to have seen it in person.

The event was publicised. It was originally part of the Queen's jubilee celebrations and after her death I wondered if they would cancel it, but they just changed the purpose.

Time out advertised it regularly, other London pages, etc.

I went and stood by tower bridge, it was actually busier than I expected.

Thanks
what a pity so many of us seem to have missed out

Hundred thanks for the update on Gloriana, I love St Katharine's Dock but can't face the Tube more often than necessary! If it goes back to it's usual home, I might go down and have a little wander.
