Help. Washing machine leaving marks but only on towels.

I have had this washing machine for about 18 months old.
Every month I give it a clean on a high temperature.
In the past few weeks it's starting to leave brown marks that
look like rust but only on the towels.
Yesterday I did a white wash with a couple of hand towels in
they have come out with the marks yet the white T-shirts and
white shirts are ok.
Does anyone know what I need to do to stop this.

Have you got a damp cloth and rubbed all around, & pulled back, the rubber seal? run a washing machine cleaner or some soda crystals through it on hot to clean it out.

I once had a similar issue of our machine leaving black on my work uniform, it didn’t leave any marks on whites just on my pale uniform. It stopped after I cleaned the seal on 3 separate occasions and ran a cleaner through the machine. No idea what was causing it though.

What sort of detergent do you use?
I found I got marks when using liquid rather than powder. I now mainly use powder with the odd pod depending on what I'm washing.

I have cleaned the rubber seal with cleaner.
Always have used powder.
I'll try and get some soda crystals.
