Moving house- packing service

I am moving house next Thursday and am using a removal packing service with the same removal co the day before. Does this go well? They have told us to pack nothing as they pack the day before.

It did for me - put any valuables in your car as they really do pack everything!

Southlandssue · 27/09/2022 21:47

The best thing ever and their speed is amazing

Oh good grief yes. Don't stand still too long else you'll find yourself in a box.

We took the day off to help/supervise and ended up going out for a long lunch, there was nothing for us to do

IME it works very well. The crew pass like locusts across your hole and everything disappears into the boxes. Including full waste paper baskets Blush.

But there are certain things you must pack yourself beforehand, and take with you in your own car on moving day:

Your valuables (jewellery, passports etc)
Medicines
24hr of clothes/nappies/toiletries
Tea-making kit (including kettle, mugs, milk etc) and snacks
Vacuum cleaner in case your sellers have left the place a tip. It's much easier to run around with the vac before the boxes pile up.

Are the movers dismantling and reconstructing furniture? If they aren't reconstructing, make sure you pack your tools as well and take them with you.

It would be a total pain to arrive at your new home and have to rummage through a million boxes to find the tea bags/nappies/screwdrivers.

Good luck with the move.

Yes definitely! They are very skilled packers - much faster and stuff is less likely to get broken because they know how to do it. But keep a close eye on stuff you don't want packed, including damp towels...

They are great but they pack everything, empty your bins.
Put valuables, passports, phone chargers and handbags in car.
The tea making kit and vacuum cleaner is a good idea.
Also a set of sheets for each bed.

Jules912 · 27/09/2022 22:30

Yes, well worth it but they really do pack everything. The ones we had told us to put anything we didn't want packed on our bed, as others have said you don't want them to do valuables etc. Make sure you leave enough plates etc for that evening. Ours left a box open for things like the kettle we'd want to pack last and unpack first.

I said to DP I'm never moving again unless we can afford this 😂

RainbowCat26 · 27/09/2022 22:32

Yes they are money well spent! We filled our car with things we really wanted to have with us, mainly valuables, my work laptop, and cleaning supplies. They pack the rest and they are so efficient! We followed them from room to room cleaning the carpet etc then went over to the new house ahead of them to do the same (though thankfully the sellers had left it spotless!)

tinofbeans · 27/09/2022 22:52

Yes, it was the best money we ever spent. They even re-assembled the beds for us in the new house.

I was expecting the odd broken cup etc, but in 2 full moves not one item was broken 😀
