Do you think the human race will exist in a thousand years?

Just that, really.

I don’t think we will survive as a species at the rate we’re killing our own habitat.

That said, modern humans have been around for about 200,000 years and have survived a lot. It just feels like the damage done to the environment even in the last 100 years shows such an accelerated state of decline.

So, do you think your great-great-great-etc-etc-grandchildren will be around in 3022?

No. Sooner or later in that time frame there's going to be a huge nuclear, global war.

Kanaloa · 27/09/2022 20:59

I don’t know. I hope so. Humans are crazy resilient. But I suppose even if we’re not, I won’t be here. So I won’t know. But it’s a very frightening prospect, sometimes you wonder how we’ve made a place where it really could be the end of the world soon.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2022 20:59

Yes but possibly not in great numbers.

We're incredibly adaptive and intelligent. We're not going anywhere.

Brahumbug · 27/09/2022 20:59

The Carter Catastrophe, postulated by Brendan Carter, would tend to indicate that the human race will be extinct by then. So I agree with you.

Joolsin · 27/09/2022 21:01

No, I don't think so. But the planet will carry on merrily without us, we don't matter.

Mythril · 27/09/2022 21:01

I do, I think there will always be a few left after any great disaster. Small pockets of people will live on.

KarenPiriesTankTop · 27/09/2022 21:04

Yes

BorgQueen · 27/09/2022 21:04

Barring a global extinction level event then yes but society may well devolve, with remote tribes faring the best. It’s time to worry When billionaires all move to somewhere remote.

Haven’t heard of this. Tonight’s bedtime reading sorted!

Just resurrecting this old thread.. the above post I completely agree with. Climate chaos the biggest problem we face as a species and greed is fuelling it.

IncompleteSenten · 12/08/2023 08:15

I expect so but far fewer of us and life will be very different.

Several thousand years though and all traces of us will be gone and the planet will be recovering.

sashagabadon · 12/08/2023 08:15

Yes but maybe not in 100,000 years. Humans are too inventive and good at problem solving and resilience as a species to just die out.
