At what age did your teen boys stop growing?

Just curious really. DS is 15 1/2 and 5 ft 11 3/4, and he really wants to gain that elusive quarter-inch! He's definitely not shooting up in the ridiculous way he was last year, but he's so much taller than me now that I find it hard to tell whether he's still growing or not.

@spiderlight I am interested in this too! My just 13 year old DS is 5ft 11 and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon!
I think it is about 17-18 for boys though. I despair at the number of pairs of shoes he’ll outgrow by then

Tummytroubles22 · 27/09/2022 10:24

Also interested. My DS is 14, nearly 15 and 5’ 10 his paediatrician did his growth prediction in July when he was 5’ 8 and estimated he would reach 5’ 10. Since he’s already reached that I wonder if he just won’t grow much more.

He was never expected to be tall and only really started to gain height when he turned 13. It’s amazing to watch them go from such wee boys to having an actual man going about the house!

ItsRainingPens · 27/09/2022 10:25

20 ish, but the growing does slow down!

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/09/2022 10:26

Youngest is 19, just shy of 6ft 5 and still growing.

erikbloodaxe · 27/09/2022 10:26

20 ish for all 3.

ClaryFairchild · 27/09/2022 10:28

I think it depends on when they have their growth spurt? My 15 year old DS had had most of his teen growth spurt in the last 12 months so I suspect he has way more growing to do. Whereas some of his classmates had shot up at 12/13 and have slowed right down.

JustDanceAddict · 27/09/2022 10:37

DS stopped at just over 17, he’s 194cms (6ft4) 😱
His biggest spurt was 13-14 where he grew 11cm and then steadier growth until 17. He hasn’t grown for a year now so I think that’s it.
He way overtook some boys who went through puberty early!!

TheLongGallery · 27/09/2022 10:39

At about 18, he is now 6ft 5, his Dad is 6ft 2. I’m actually quite tall for my family so DH obviously had dominant genes that time. Dear DD who sadly died a few years ago was fully grown at 4ft 11 which is the same height as my sister, the others are all about 5ft 2 I hit the heady heights of almost 5ft 5 which is the same height as my Dad, he wasn’t English though and that’s a regular height for his cultural background.

Wincher · 27/09/2022 10:47

I'm interested too - my DS is 12 and hasn't hit puberty yet but I guess it will be any time now. It's going to be so weird when he really starts to grow! Am making the most of being able to kiss the top of his head while I still can. Both DH and I are relatively tall so expecting DS to be 6' or so, though he's never been a particularly tall child (but not was i).

spiderlight · 27/09/2022 12:24

Sounds as if mine has a way to go yet, then! He's already shot past me (5 ft 5), his dad (5 ft 7) and all his older cousins. One of DH's brothers is 6 ft 2, but other than that, we're not a tall family on either side, although DS has always been tall for his age.

It is weird when they suddenly become adult-sized though! He did most of his growing aged 13-14, in lockdown, so when he went back to school and his friends started coming round again, it took me a bit of time to get used to all the squeaky little boys suddenly towering over me with entirely new voices.

  1. He hasn't grown for 6 months now.

He's 6 feet 4.5.

Desmorelda · 27/09/2022 16:35

Lol. Never any average sized boys on MN.

JimBob61 · 27/09/2022 21:36

Mine is 22 now and seems to have stopped growing. Probably a good thing as he's 6.6 with size 14 feet 😂😂

waterlego · 27/09/2022 21:47

I’m interested in this too!

My DS is 14.5 and just under 5ft 11. Been growing like a weed for the past couple of years (and guzzling milk like it’s going out of fashion) but seems to be slowing down a bit now. He’s hoping to reach 6ft too but is also keen to ‘bulk up’ and goes to the gym a bit to try and grow some muscle! He is getting broader but still very skinny with long gangly legs and arms.

I found it weird the first few times I heard a man’s voice about the house and thought ‘but DH isn’t home’ and then realising 😆

Yeah it's funny isn't it, I don't see many 6ft teens in real life! Just to balance it out my 15yo is 5ft5. He's desperate to be taller so hopefully he'll manage a couple of inches more before he stops.

MammaWeasel · 27/09/2022 21:52

About 20,he was still lanky though. He 's 23 now and looks toned and honed, no more stringbean!

Hesleepswiththefishes · 27/09/2022 21:55

One of mine is 15 and a half and just starting to show signs of puberty, despite size 11 feet and being 5’6…my height, but has a 44” chest so is all sorts of disjointed looking the poor love. Other one is 18, 6’2 and think has stopped growing…he needs to fill out as he still looks like bambi

I think people only post in height threads if they have a particularly tall or short child.
my DS is 16 and 6’5” and still growing, although thankfully his feet have stopped!

Msgrieves · 27/09/2022 22:00

Towering boys and willowy girls 🙄. Ds1 is almost 16 and 5'8 or 9 I think, ds2 is almost 13 and maybe 5'1 or 2. Poor Dd got the literal short end of the stick and is 4'11 at 19. Not a tall family, my dad was about 5'10, kids dad was also about the same, his dad wasnt tall either, think Im the tallest of my siblings at 5'3.

Mine is pretty average. He’s about 5ft 10 at 20. Was a tall child and probably finished growing by the time he was 16. He’s a nice height but definitely no giant

MirandaWest · 27/09/2022 22:33

Mine is on the shorter side - about 5 foot 8 I think at 18. Hasn't grown since about 14 or so I think.

Claymorekick · 27/09/2022 22:34

Desmorelda · 27/09/2022 16:35

Just saw this and thought exactly the same. I have come across very few men who are 6ft 5 and over yet according to this thread, they are everywhere 🤷‍♀️

Just for balance, my 16 year old is a measly 5ft 9 - strange as both me and DH are taller than average - no idea if he has stopped growing but I hope not as I would like him to be at least 6 ft.

ProfGlow · 21/05/2024 08:59

@Claymorekick
Did he grow any more after this?

My ds is 17 and 5ft 9. He was predicted to be 6ft, but hasn't grown much in the last few years, so I'm unsure if this will happen!

Do the height charts usually ring true? He was following 90th centile, but now is on the 50th 🤷‍♀️

ilovetea14 · 21/05/2024 09:17

My ds is 13 6ft size 11 shoes. His feet haven't grown since last summer thank god. He hasn't grown much either in the last few months, not sure if he's finished growing he would love to be 6ft 4!
