Do your young dc like the tweenies?

I've been ill recently so my neighbour has had my 3yo dd for a few afternoons and has been watching old vhs videos with her. She's introduced dd to the Tweenies and she is now obsessed with them. I've got dd a few tweenies DVDs off eBay since and it seems a bit dull compared to kids tv today (I was a bit old by the time they were on tv so have never watched them before). I don't actually think it's too dated but it's just a bit bland (Bella is quite annoying though!). I was just wondering if anyone else's DC likes them and also if there are any other similar older programmes that dd may also enjoy

DS2 (now 22) absolutely loved Bella! He had a tiny Bella doll- found in a charity shop, that he carried everywhere 😁.

My older ones loved the rubber dubbers, little robots and the koala brothers, when I was little I loved fraggle rock and raggy dolls!

AnnotherReader · 26/09/2022 20:48

My DD used to watch the Tweenies - I never liked Bella either.
I much prefered Fifi and the flower tots and Zingzillas

What was that one with Bits and Bobs (they were balls of fluff)?
theme tune went like:
Trug was made to be a toy
Packed in a box for a girl or boy
Then he saw the open door
And off he chugged to see some more.
Trug where are you going?
Can we come too?
etc

Bytrgrewd · 26/09/2022 21:08

Ah it was called bits and bobs

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 26/09/2022 21:14

That really is, that's TV from my era born late 70s loved those shows. I'll add King Rollo, let's pretend, bagpuss and bric- a -brac.

My kids, mid 00s , loved tweenies, postman pat special delivery service, fireman Sam and Bob the builder, didn't mind a but of Brum either. Lots more too.

Bytrgrewd · 26/09/2022 21:29

Brum ! Loved that too!

MarthaMayWhovier · 26/09/2022 21:31

I used to watch The Tweenies. It was the only children's TV show my mum could tolerate. Teletubbies gave her the rage.

Riverlee · 26/09/2022 21:33

I didn’t realise the Tweenies were no longer on (my dc are now young adults).

I once saw Doodles in real life. He was visiting a children’s hospital.

FeralWitch · 26/09/2022 21:33

Aw, Tweenies takes me back. I took my DC to see the live show and they were so excited it made me cry 😳

I used to like Jake’s mum with her leopard skin coat.

Riverlee · 26/09/2022 21:34

Rosie and Jim was a favourite.

MarthaMayWhovier · 26/09/2022 21:38

Just found out Mr Tumble played Jake 😱

Remembering DH queueing at 5am one Christmas at Toys r us to buy LaLa

I worked with kids when I was younger and Tweenies haunted me. Wiggles too... I'd forgotten Zingzillas, I won't sleep tonight for that theme tune rattling around in my head now. There was one I loved, which was Doodle Do - the presenter on it was a comedian who kept corpsing at the three people whose hands were the little characters trying to do art without making a total mess. Wanted to sit and watch that one after the kids went to school 😁

Graceandfavours · 26/09/2022 23:00

Ah We used to quite like the Tweenies

what about show me show me? We loved that-it had a play school vibe about it.

I also loved the alpacas-still sing the song regularly!

I’m quite glad I had my kids before ‘on demand’ was a thing so we got to experience the full CBeebies range!

Fluffyfluffflufffluff · 26/09/2022 23:06

Playdays Grin

Chattycathydoll · 26/09/2022 23:08

@Graceandfavours ooh show me show me is great! DD has additional needs & is just growing out of it now aged 7. I still never got tired of it!

BitOutOfPractice · 26/09/2022 23:10

My dd1 (who is 22 now) loved the Tweenies! Aww she had the play set and everything.

She also loved “Come Outside” with auntie Mabel, pippin the dog and their spotty plane.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/09/2022 00:03

Tweenies, Fimbles, Balamory, Teletubbies…

My eldest went to uni last week, and still has a Po and a Pom in her room here.

DorritLittle · 27/09/2022 00:11

My kids loved The Tweenies, Fimbles, Tots TV, Come outside, Balamory, the one with Granny Murray, Tikkabilla... I also have cuddly Tweenies, Fimbles and Teletubbies in my attic. And an Everything's Rosie!

miltonj · 27/09/2022 00:23

My 2 year old loves brum! I like it to, it's nice looking at all the scenery from 91and realising how much has changed!

apalershadeoflight · 27/09/2022 00:28

Bob the Builder was my dcs' absolute favourite, closely followed by the Fimbles. Tweenies, Fireman Sam and Postman Pat also make the top five.

Vivid flashback to the early-mid noughties here, snuggled up on the sofa with ds1 while nursing ds2. Sweet memories!

abcd4321 · 27/09/2022 01:45

There's some lovely Christmas episodes. As a parent, it was one of the shows I didn't mind watching alongside my kids. I am talking 2 decades ago.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 27/09/2022 04:00

Another vote for Come Outside with Pippin the dog and Aunty Mabel.

Educational and entertaining, both my DC loved it. My mum recorded hours of episodes on VHS and they would watch it repeatedly. Apparently it is one of the BBC's most successful children's programmes of all time.

DD can still recall certain episodes over 20 years on and she was quite upset to discover that Lynda Baron who played Aunty Mabel sadly died earlier this year.
