How do you do your dishes? Do you pile them up and do them at the end of the day or do you do them as you go?

I put them in the dishwasher!

But if I was washing up by hand, I would let things pile things up a bit until there was a fair bit, otherwise it would be a terrible waste of water to keep washing up individual items throughout the day.

TigerRag · 26/09/2022 17:17

I live alone and usually wash them every other day

PinkButtercups · 26/09/2022 17:18

Don't have a dishwasher.

Done in the morning after breakfast.

Done at lunch time after DS has finished nursery to wash anything that's accumulated in that time plus DS's lunch box.

Then done a after dinner. I don't like dishes laying around on the side.

FivePotatoesHigh · 26/09/2022 17:19

As we go or DCat follows us around yowling as he likes to sit in the sink!

boatahoy · 26/09/2022 17:23

I put them in the dishwasher but if I didn't have a dishwasher I would wash and dry them as I used them. I would hate the thought of having to do a huge pile of washing up.

iliketartan · 26/09/2022 17:26

Dishwasher - I sacrificed a kitchen cupboard to fit it in. Worth.Every.Penny.

snap and sometimes i will only wash them when i have run out of dishes or cutlery

OldEvilOwl · 26/09/2022 17:30

After every meal & wipe down sides

Bloodybridget · 26/09/2022 17:40

We have a dishwasher, so most gets put in after use. Other stuff sometimes hangs around a little while until there's enough to make washing up worthwhile.

AclowncalledAlice · 26/09/2022 17:48

here's just the 2 of us here and no dishwasher. They get piled up and done after dinner/tea*

*whatever the main meal of the day is called where (generic) you are.

NippyWoowoo · 26/09/2022 17:48

I have a big deep sink and live alone so they pile up until the end of the week or until it's full, whichever comes first.

Wish I had a dishwasher!

longtompot · 26/09/2022 17:56

At home there are four of us and we have a dishwasher so the stuff gets piled up and then someone (me or dh) fill it at the end of the day. I sometimes fill as I go, especially if making a pan etc heavy meal or baking
Currently we are away, just the two of us, and although the cottage had a dishwasher, we are washing up after each meal (whoever doesn't cook washes up) and it seems to be working. But it is holiday and a novelty. I'm sure it would wear off quite quickly

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 26/09/2022 17:57

When we didn't have a dishwasher, we washed up after every meal.
We didn't dry up, we left them to drain then put away later.

HairyMothballs · 26/09/2022 17:58

I do them all after tea. I use the dishwasher if there are a lot of pans and baking trays, etc..

thepurplewhisperer · 26/09/2022 18:12

I load the dish washer and delay it's start to coincide with the most sunny spell available that day (solar panels so it's free).
Then hordes of teenagers descend on the kitchen and it's trashed again with plates piled up and the dishwasher is still full and waiting for sun.

I can do three loads a day.

No way can I wash up that much, I'd be there all day in soapy water.

I can't wait for them all to move out and do their own dishes.
