Don't really like Google Translate - also gives me 2 options!

Is it:

A - cáca
B - cáca milis

I think it may be A

Both cáca milis means literally sweet cake but it is widely used.

CinnamonSweet73 · 26/09/2022 12:15

The first is just cake, the second is 'sweet cake'. I would say they're fairly interchangeable but I'm not the world's best Irish speaker! (Though am Irish)

M0rT · 26/09/2022 12:18

Cáca means cake and milis means sweet.
I'm not a gaeilgeoir but we always said Cáca milis for cake when I was in school.

We always used Cáca Milis at school when talking about sponge cake/gateaux etc. I think Cáca by itself could be potato cake or boxty so it's just less precise, but perfectly fine.

LadyDespair · 26/09/2022 12:29

My husband is Irish and he says caca milis. It’s one of the few words I know Grin

Garman · 26/09/2022 12:30

We’d always say cáca milis, not just cáca.

NiteNight · 26/09/2022 21:15

cáca milis

Joolsin · 26/09/2022 21:19

I agree with everyone's explanations,OP. Are you ok on the pronunciation?

Cáca is "CAW-cah"
Milis is "MILL-ish"

Libre2 · 26/09/2022 21:22

I’m intrigued why you need to know!

belleager · 26/09/2022 21:24

Caca milis but I would say piosa caca or caca beag or whatever.

SnackyOnassis · 26/09/2022 21:26

Cáca milis for what we know in English as cake - just cáca could be any mound of anything, cake of soap, bread, etc etc.
