Current government

I've seen some pretty horrible people come and go in British politics but I've never seen a government so criminally minded, so corrupt, so determined to steal the maximum possible amount from working people and give it to the rich

OP posts:
FindingMeno · 25/09/2022 22:52

If you're old enough to remember the 80's it's a bit deja vu tbh.

Bettyboo12 · 25/09/2022 22:56

It's absolutely awful what they are doing and how they are getting away with it. Enough is enough people need to fight back.

Oiseaux · 25/09/2022 22:58

Time for a revolution. Has to happen. We need the army and police on our side, to rid us of these criminals.

Chicca1970 · 25/09/2022 22:59

Truss is vile - I heard on LBC tonight that there could be a Tory rebellion because of the abysmal standing of the £ right now. They are a nasty bunch of ideologues. I just wish the bloody Labour Party had an electable leader - I would like to see Wes Streeting stand.

Cattenberg · 25/09/2022 23:18

This wasn’t on my radar before today, but I think it sounds appalling.

I do not support this government or their policies but I think your post is entirely inaccurate. There is no evidence that Truss’s government is criminal or corrupt, unlike her predecessor who was both. And they are not stealing money from working people to give to the rich: what they are not doing is taxing rich and high earning people in order to provide a more equitable distribution of wealth.

Absolutely protest their policies but you need to do it in a more factual way if you want to get anywhere rather than just saying silly things.

Cherrysherbet · 25/09/2022 23:24

They need to go. The last week has proved how out of touch they are. They only care about making the rich richer. To hell with the rest of us. I can’t bare Truss. She makes my skin crawl.

FayeGovan · 25/09/2022 23:25

Totally agree @Erica56

Well, we will no for sure that this government is not corrupt if they answer Emily Thornberrys questions about foreign office procurement cards.
Why was nearly £1500 spent in Norwich Cities football club? Perhaps the head of the Foreign office at that time, Liz Truss could let us know. Maybe at the same time she could let the country know why she supports the club.

Also, shorting the pound. This is about as corrupt as it comes. They are taking the people ofvthis country for idiots and some are still falling for it.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/09/2022 23:32

No,no! Know.

HeddaGarbled · 25/09/2022 23:34

This also is a silly statement.

If you want change, you need to campaign on the real issues not parrot the nonsense you hear down the pub.

Read some proper newspapers, educate yourself, have serious well-reasoned conversation with friends and family that don’t include this sort of propaganda. Maybe join a political party and help with their campaigning. Vote tactically. Protest.

BattenburgSlice · 25/09/2022 23:35

Disaster Capitalism in full force 😡

CherryGenoa · 25/09/2022 23:48

Yes, disaster capitalism. Shock the population and in the confusion, quickly bring in all sorts of morally bankrupt policies that the public will largely find unpalatable. Sickening and we must fight it.

"Robbing a bank is no crime compared to owning one." Forget who said it (Bertolt Brecht, maybe?) That's the kind of 'criminal' mindedness the OP means. The rich are being pandered to and protected by a cabinet corrupted by lobbying and backhanders, at the expense of robust public services and greater economic equality. No proof? Truss's employment history makes interesting reading if you want to understand why she doesn't believe in windfall taxes on the energy industry. And that's the tip of the iceberg with this lot, wait and see.

OP, you're not silly.

Also silly.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 26/09/2022 00:12

Do fuck off you today that.

caringcarer · 26/09/2022 00:17

The government are not stealing people's taxes to give to well off. Most taxes comes from better off people to start with. All Truss has done is stop taking 45 percent off those earning over £150k pa. How is that stealing? Get a grip.

HeddaGarbled · 26/09/2022 00:29

You damage the cause by not arguing rationally: it makes the opposition look idiotic and more easily dismissed. Learn the facts and use them wisely.

tobee · 26/09/2022 00:31

The thing about saying Labour needs an electable leader fails to take into account that any leader they elect will be maligned by certain forces for very little. People have been brainwashed into thinking all Labour leaders have to come to a higher standard than the morally bankrupt Tory party. They've been brainwashed into thinking all Labour leaders are automatically flawed. This is what suits the establishment; that is the press, the city etc etc. Most of the electorate don't really follow politics much and just pick up the perceived narrative handed onto them on a plate by people spending all their time pushing this agenda.

"I don't trust Labour on the economy" they say because that's the soundbite they remember.

While there maybe truth in this the original op is about the current government.

Very interesting angle.

Truss vs. Mother Nature.

Hasn’t Mother Nature made her feelings clear enough in recent years?

OP’s description of “Criminally minded” might be a plausible description of Truss’ government tbf. As is “corrupt”.

Criminals don’t like being told what to do and break rules to get their own way. Truss wants freedom to do whatever she wants without instructions (aka the rule of law).

Truss is also not elected as a PM in a general election. She hasn’t earned the majority she enjoys (thanks to the red wall voters) and therefore takes it for granted. Truss does not have a proper mandate (it’s like 0.3% of the population who voted her as leader). Truss is being irresponsible with a fragile majority victory won by Boris - not her. Criminally minded types take things that are not earned honestly by them and neglect those things.

The economic consequences of Liz Truss: It is surely a fantasy that further tax cuts and deregulation will transform performance. How on earth can she be allowed to do this, especially without a proper mandate?

Criminally minded folk do not like accountability for their actions and the impact their decisions have on others. Truss refused to put the budget to the scrutiny of the Office of Budget Responsibility and sidestepped the requirement by calling it a “mini budget”. No, it’s a Budget and people can see through that disingenuous attempt to disguise it as anything else.

Bankers who support Liz Truss all decided to 'short' the pound on the day of Kwasi Kwarteng's mini-budget- and made 'small fortunes'. Is it a coincidence?

Liz Truss City backers 'made small fortunes betting against plunging pound'

Aren’t there serious laws about insider trading?!

But of course. Truss doesn’t like instructions. A recipe without instructions is a recipe for disaster…

Truss is demonstrating she’s morally bankrupt… that’s what you need to get to grips with.

Truss is enabling Greed which is a Deadly (capital D) sin for good reason. Profit (good) is not a dirty word, but Greed is a Dirty (big D) word (and also a Deadly (capital D) sin).

High Borrowing at higher cost to do a tax cut for the rich during a cost of living crisis is morally wrong. The rich can cope better with the living crisis the poor and (especially the) middle less so. The economic policy is a gamble - and one that has never worked before.

“There’s enough for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s Greed” - Mahatma Gandhi (qualified lawyer, political activist and leader who led the Indian independence movement to victory after the country had suffered under a Greed…).
