Hi all, I want to make some home-made vodka for friends and family, what flavour is gone down best and what works best?

Ah ok, seems like I need to do a bit of internet searching, thanks

I did black jacks. It's the last thing on the way down and the first thing on the way back up. Don't do black jacks.

I made orange marmalade gin last year, really enjoyed it. Just add marmalade to cheap gin and stir daily for a couple of weeks then leave til Christmas.
I guess if it would work with vodka too.

Cheese & Onion?

I did chilli, it was really good

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/09/2022 09:52

Orange and cranberry is good and seasonal too.

ohfourfoxache · 26/09/2022 10:25

After Eight….bloody gorgeous

But you need to make it in a Kilner jar or similar because it forms a sugary crust on top which you have to scrape off, otherwise it just seals the vodka in the bottle

Soor Plooms

With the werthers you really don't need heat. Just add werthers (the proper original butterscotch ones, not the chewy caramels or the ones with a liquid centre) to your vodka, and shake it occasionally. It takes about 2 days.

Keep it in the fridge once made, and shake well before use. We don't use a mixer, we shot it or sip it.

For a real treat, sieve it to get rid of any bits then add double cream, stir and serve. Or pour it over a scoop of ice-cream.

HollywoodTease · 27/09/2022 10:41

For rolo vodka you need a 4-pack of rolos and some vodka.

Melt the rolos gently in a jug or bowl, I sometimes use the microwave but a bowl over hot water on the stove is the best way. Stir in a splash of vodka until it's mixed smoothly. Keep warming, adding vodka and stirring til all the rolo is dissolved and you just have a liquid. Allow to cool, then add it back to the rest of the vodka in the bottle and shake well.

Top tip - you will never quite dissolve it all, so you will be left with some small bits of vodka caramel that will need eating.

You're welcome!

Terry's chocolate orange was freaking amazing, using the dishwasher method. I'm keen to try mint aero, I think that would be awesome.

ClaryFairchild · 27/09/2022 10:48

Apparently skittles will froth..... according by to previous dishwasher vodka threads on here.

Nigella's Cranberry and Vanilla Vodka is lovely and can be ready by Xmas but also looks so pretty in the bottle you can gift it and say wait a bit....

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 27/09/2022 11:21

i have a Christmas Pudding vodka recipe from the Not- Quite -Nigella website - tastes divine and just like Christmas Pudding.

AnchorWHAT · 27/09/2022 11:32

Cough candy twists, crushed and poured into a bottle of vodka, lush

FunnyCradock · 27/09/2022 12:35

Jelly babies. Took out the black and green ones otherwise it goes a sludgy colour. Used the dishwasher method (sealed well with cling film) and pass it through coffee filters x 2 afterwards to remove any foam/froth.
Makes a lovely bright orange/pink fruity tasting drink. Served over ice or with lemonade (sweet tooth) or tonic.

Coming back to this. Flavoured gins. Who’s been successful with these ?

WeAreTheHeroes · 09/10/2022 18:50

Damson is a classic for gin. Redcurrant is also good and a beautiful colour. Bramble/blackberry would probably be good - I've not tried it, but BBC Good Food has a recipe.

Chatterboxy · 09/10/2022 19:09

Weathers/toffees, can’t go wrong! 😋

IceFemonLanta · 10/10/2022 22:52
