Giving up sweet things for Stoptober

I eat far too much sugar and I drink far too much Diet Coke, so I'm going to give up both for October.
I've tried having both in moderation, and sooner or later I fail. I've tried giving up both for good, and sooner or later I fail. I reckon I can get my head around the challenge (and finite time) of just quitting both for the month. And 31 days is long enough to feel a difference.

I'm not suggesting a month-long check-in thread, I name change too often for that. However, I would love to hear from anyone else considering something similar and I'd love to hear from anyone who has managed either, and what the benefits were to them.

Good luck! If you're giving up sugary crap, do you need something to take your mind off it? Exercise is the best thing, can you join a gym?

I'm in.
I did it before: I have up all soda for twenty YEARS! Then I went somewhere crazy hot and nothing would quench my thirst other than a coke. Opened the floodgates. I need to stop again.
In my years off fuzzy drinks, I definitely felt better for it. My waistline shrunk.
I also eat too many sweets. I don't drink alcohol, I don't eat meat or dairy. These are easy for me to not have. Sugar is my vice.
We can do it.

I'm giving up shopping for a month. I have a clothes shopping addiction and I am ashamed to say I buy so many clothes, always feeling like I need more. I have been in denial about it, and I need to change - so my husband is holding me to account! I'm quite nervous about it, which sounds crazy but it's been a habit so long. I send alot back but it's this cycle of buying/returning/guilt!

Fabulous, I’m glad it’s not just me.

I’m weaning myself off this week, ready for Saturday. I don’t drink either. Planning some distractions is a good idea.

@Oiseaux i would give everything i have to
swap your sugar vice for my alcohol one 😭.

OP just like it is for alcohol prepare for withdrawal and have alternative activities and distraction techniques. Know your triggers. Day 4 is normally the hardest but after that you should be ok.

I understand. It's easy for me though - I never liked the idea of alcohol. It doesn't even taste nice. Basically, I think I have a child's palate! Hence my love of sweets and fizzy drinks.
