I have £100 to spend. I know bowls are bad, water quality is crucial, trendy designs are not best for the fish. But that's all!
Anyone recommend a smallish tank for probably white cloud mountain minnows or similar, possibly a small goldfish? Prob start cold water.
Is for a corner of my WFH office, will have a light and happy to have plastic plants!

We recently got a fish tank, it has inbuilt filter and light and has been really good.
It's the Interpret Aqua Cube 28 litres.
Fish seem happy 🙂

whatever the size requirements on the tank say, double it.
also, real plants are much better. Oxygenate, keep the water cleaner and fish like to nibble them, helps avoid digestive issues.

First look up nitrogen cycle.
The bigger the tank the easier to maintain water quality.
Loads of info on YouTube.
Enjoy your aquarium.

I suspect you’re thinking pretty small - if it’s anything like 28litres, it’s nowhere near enough for a goldfish. 1 betta fish would be fine however, just get a heater and filter too.

As for goldfish, it’s so common for people to assume small tanks are fine. They definitely aren’t. This link helps to explain injaf.org/aquarium-fish/the-goldfish-section/what-size-tank-for-goldfish/

Thank you everyone! I was thinking about 45l, I thought that was small.
Do you think that would be ok?
Can you recommend any manufacturers?
And shape - basic cuboid best?

Depends on the fish, eg tetras like length space

Qwerkie · 25/09/2022 21:59

That’s far too small for a goldfish they can get massive. Don’t be fooled by the size of them in the shops!

Buy the biggest tank you can afford. Goldfish need lots of space to dig around and they are much dirtier than tropical fish. I have 2 goldfish and 2 cold water loach in a 110 litre tank and tbh it should be bigger.
