Self care

I’m approaching 40 and nearly all my life I have looked after others including working ridiculous hours to do so. As a result I’m constantly tired, overweight, bad skin, bad teeth, bad hair with no interests of my own. I want to start looking after myself, so for those who are good at doing that, please give me your tips.

I would start with small improvements to diet and exercise. Once you feel better about your body, the rest should start to come together.

If you're not a keen athlete, try to find something vaguely active that you don't absolutely hate and do it most days e.g. 45 mins walking twice day while listening to music/audio books works well for me, with the odd joe wicks with the kids thrown in now and then.

Increase fruit and veg consumption, Chuck out sweets/crisps etc. Cut down on alcohol if you drink.

After you've done that for a month or so, you could treat yourself to a haircut and manicure. Get a couple of new outfits (Vinted is good for this if budget is tight).

Thank you. An hour and an a half exercise day every seems really indulgent. That’s definitely not a criticism of you as I aspire to have that level of self care. I think my biggest battle is getting over the guilt of doing anything nice for myself.
