Waitrose - any having problems with raw chicken packs leaking/contaminated?

Last 2 collect orders from Waitrose, their ready to cook range of chicken in metal trays have been disgusting. They come in a separate safety bag thing so you don’t notice until you get home. The first time one packet was open all the way along one side and had leaked everywhere. Before this we’ve had issues where the outside is dirty from leaked juices and packets were opened and we thought maybe it was just us packing badly.

But this week for the second time in a row, the packets have the contents of the raw chicken juices on the outside of the packet. Clearly. One had a small hole in the sealing again. I guess something is going wrong in the factory and not being sealed, but these are leaving the factory with raw chicken on the outside, then being out on the shelves by workers, then picked again with people touching raw chicken and the the rest of the shopping. How are people not noticing this??

Waitrose gave me a cut and paste answer and have yet to refund me despite sending lots of photos and questioning this is surely a health and safety risk to staff and customers? And it’s every order now? I’ve been in contact about the last two orders and still waiting now.

I have had this and also with their fresh chicken breasts which are eirher not sealed prooerly or get damaged in transit. I call JL customer services and get the items refunded immedistely without any question but thats with online shopping. If its click and collect i would take them back to the store for a refund and replacement and if you ever buy them again check them before you take them home. I agree it js really gross.

Actually I stopped buying the easy Cook and deboned range as rhe meat always smelt really strong

RawChickenTray · 25/09/2022 15:43

Thanks, I thought I was supposed to go through their online thing and did it straight away, maybe I need to phone next time if this time. Didn’t have car to go back to the shop as husband had gone to work.
Must be a factory issue and they all use the same one.

I’m not going to buy chicken from there again. Annoyingly they are our only supermarket that isn’t a 90min round trip, but we can get deliveries from other stores so will do that I think.

Amazed you can even order online with Waitrose, I have given up trying, their website isn’t fit for purpose.

HappyHamsters · 25/09/2022 15:46

0800 118 881 if I recall, they are there till 9pm 7/7

HappyHamsters · 25/09/2022 15:49

I prefer m&S chicken which you can get instore or online through Ocado

fussychica · 25/09/2022 16:12

I stopped buying Waitrose fresh chicken breasts ages ago. I found the quality and value of M&S chicken far superior.

RawChickenTray · 25/09/2022 16:33

We can’t get Ocado here, M&S but assumed that was even more expensive, but will switch.
Their website is really terrible. There is no option to select product by dietary need in say the frozen or bakery. There is just one option and you have to know what you want or look through 300 items of fresh/frozen etc. It really is bad. How are they not updating it?

@HappyHamsters thanks, I’ve sent an email reply back and will phone if don’t hear anything. Friend used to work in testing chicken packs for bacteria and they should be shit hot on this kind of stuff.

Markies are no more expensive and I think all their poultry is free range

HappyHamsters · 25/09/2022 17:10

Iceland ready to cook meat joints seem to get good reviews too

RawChickenTray · 25/09/2022 17:49

I think we might have an Iceland nearer than a standard big supermarket. Will look at M&S again.

Yes. Recently bought a large pack of chicken breasts from the store and didn’t notice a hole in the film. A couple of days later I went to cook something with it and it’s w as clearly covered in bacteria.
wasted £11 😩

RawChickenTray · 25/09/2022 20:02

@ihatethecold i don’t understand why they don’t seem bothered and more people are at risk of getting ill.
