FB Marketplace -how to avoid scams

I'm afraid of being ripped off, seen a few threads on here about that.
I've seen something I like, can be posted, but the seller says they only do bank transfer not PayPal. I'm a bit skeptical given doesn't everyone have PayPal nowadays? Her profile looks legitimate.
How is best to keep from losing money when buying things on marketplace, have you ever been conned?;

I've been surprised the last couple of things I've sold on Marketplace the people have wanted to pay by bank transfer when they have been offered Paypal. Fine with me as the seller but I wouldn't ever personally buy that way. If they won't take Paypal then its probably a scam so I would leave it.

Please be very wary of buyers not using PayPal. In fact avoid at all costs.
My fairly savvy DM lost a few ££ paying by bank transfer. Reported to FB who is not interested and the scammer is still on there scamming away.

I wouldn't buy anything that I couldn't collect in person and see for myself first, tbh. Too many dodgy scammers out there, at least with ebay or similar you have some protection but not on Facebook, they can just block you after taking your money.

Pay cash on collection. Don't buy expensive goods.

Thanks all. Sorry that happened to your Mum @supertedious . I'll give it a miss I think! To ebay. :)
