Man randomly swearing at me, what the hell?

I was walking home from work earlier (it was still light) and a bloke on a bike wizzes past me, shouting that I'm a 'fucking little slag, little bitch.' (It could have been snitch, I'd reported various crimes over the last few months I was living somewhere else. But I didn't recognise the idiot, so I don't know.)
I did say 'What?' loudly, but he didn't hear me, or if he did didn't deign to answer.
Anyone else had this sort of thing happen?

Probably a case of mistaken identity?

TroysMammy · 24/09/2022 21:43

I wouldn't have said "What"? I would have shouted back twat, wanker or if no-one around cunt. Try not to pay any more attention to the odious prick.

Yes there's a woman who lives in our neighbourhood who goes round randomly shouting and swearing at people. Apparently she's got mental health problems and is an alcoholic. She had a massive go at me one day while I sat in my car on my drive because I was on my phone and she thought I was filming her. I wasn't.

She's had a go at most people to be fair.

CuteCillian · 24/09/2022 21:54

I had a smart woman shout that people like me should be ashamed of ourselves as I pushed my trolley round M&S. It shock me up as I began to overthink; was it my appearance, had I pushed in somehow etc.
It was only when I saw her in the car park yelling at some bloke saying that he disgusted her, that I realised she was mentally unwell.

Strangerthings4NW · 24/09/2022 22:25

Did you maybe walk out in front of his path, or verse to one side? Sometimes when I am
walking it’s not in a straight line.

SpinningFloppa · 24/09/2022 22:27

Maybe he has a mental illness? There was a man in the high street today Screaming and swearing at people walking by

NormalNans · 24/09/2022 22:28

A woman at a bus stop recently was pointing at me, shouting ‘evil, evil, evil’ over and over again and then something along the lines of ‘fuck off you evil cunt’. She was clearly very unwell. Fortunately I had headphones on so pretended I couldn’t hear and just carried on walking.

Incrediblebuttrue · 24/09/2022 22:29

It's his problem not yours. I was on my own having a coffee once and a man also ordered a coffee then saw me and another random woman, swore at us and stormed out. Afaik I'd never seen him before.

intervalfiller · 24/09/2022 22:33

Maybe he has Tourettes? Let it go.

Godsavetheking2022 · 24/09/2022 22:36

Could be tourette's? Try to no think about it. There is clearly a problem of some sort. It's not you.

HilarityEnsues · 24/09/2022 22:36

Don't let it go as in ignore the fact women are often harassed in the street, it's very common in the UK that men will shout nasty things from moving vehicles, my teen girls have been heckled lots of times, it's not ok. Let it go in that you can't do anything but ignore.

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 24/09/2022 22:40

I once had a man randomly veer towards me on the pavement and elbow me in the nose quite hard when I was walking home minding my own business. I was quite close to home thankfully and ran the rest of the way back.

Some people are just dicks.

VioletInsolence · 24/09/2022 22:58

There’s a man who walks up and down my street swearing….not in a Tourette’s way - he’s clearly not anxious because he swaggers along. He called me a dirty bitch once! I’m not the type to ignore rude people but I ignored this man and try to avoid him because he’s clearly severely mentally ill and shouldn’t be out in the community.

I'm thinking its this. Due to his speed you unnerved him by wobbling about on the path. I am assuming he was on the path (illegally) as well rather than on the road.

All this means he is a twat for
Being on pavement
For the speed
For not giving way and precedence to the person who is legally there
For cursing at you

In other words. Its him, not you.

SapphireSeptember · 25/09/2022 00:09

I don't think I did veer into his path, he was going too fast for that. There was plenty of room for him to pass, although he seemed to veer towards me long enough to be a dick. I wish I had called him a twat! I was just stunned and that was all I could think of to say.
I'm not scared of little oiks, I had a young bloke try and ride their bike into me (in the shop) when I was working in a supermarket during the first lockdown! Didn't back down then either. He seemed shocked that I didn't.

Sounds like a misogynist prick getting his jollies

Lululeman · 19/02/2023 09:33

You sound so great. I would have been scared. I am very sensitive to verbal violence. You sound much feistier than me and I love it.

SapphireSeptember · 09/07/2023 07:09

@Lululeman Thank you! It's an age thing. I was definitely more timid when I was younger. I'm 34 now and take a lot less shit than I did at 24. I can't wait to see what I'm like when I'm older. 😁

I'm so glad you posted this, though also sorry it happened to you. I've just been shouted and sworn at in my local park by a stranger who decided to make assumptions about me and my dog, and used vile and vicious language to share her thoughts on those incorrect assumptions. It was a totally unprovoked attack, we weren't even very near her, and it has left me shaking and in tears. It's been helpful to read this thread, and I think the woman must be mentally ill. I'm annoyed with myself for being so upset but it's such a shock!

JohnTheRevelator · 27/05/2025 19:15

A couple of years ago I was sitting on a bench in my local high street, just looking at my phone. Some bloke I'd never seen in my life before came up to me and said 'I'm warning you, you're going to get what's coming to you'. I was like,WTAF? Turns out he went around saying it to loads of people.
