Christmas temp job dilemma

Hi, my DD has just accepted a 8 hour temp Xmas job with a well known retailer to start in about 10 days time. She's now been called for interview for 2 other companies who will pay £4 an hour more! Is it totally wrong for her to accept the first job whilst waiting to hear from the 2nd two jobs? She said it feels morally wrong that she might have to give up the job after the 1st week. If she's offered the better paid job she said it'll be awkward giving up the original job.

I would totally do so, personally.

£4 an hour is a huge difference and I'd definitely be going with the better paid job if I was offered it

Meh. They'd drop her like a hot potato if they could find someone to do the job cheaper. There's a moral code and there's being taken advantage of.

If the first company cared about their staff they'd pay them more

Think of it the other way, would the company think twice about letting her go if they found someone better - no.

As long as she is professional so she doesn't burn bridges then it shouldn't be an issue. She shouldn't feel guilty.

Happens all the time not just with temp jobs.

Fullofpudding · 24/09/2022 20:28

The job she's accepted is the minimum wage for a 16 year old. The others pay the adult national minimum wage. Shame it's such a difference.

So they're paying as little as they legally can? I wouldn't owe them my loyalty

I work in retail. Tell her take the job for the wk and then drop it for the better paid job if she gets it. It happens all the time.
