Wooden flooring upstairs

Thoughts on taking up carpet on the stairs and landing and having it just in the bedrooms? My cats have all but destroyed my carpets on the stairs and landing with scratching and toileting accidents and I’m embarrassed to have visitors because of it! There are no stains but the edges are terribly frayed and I’m petrified someone will smell old cat piss (even though I can’t, but I still worry!)

I want to just totally get rid of the carpet and have wooden flooring instead but I’m worried about a) noise and b) cold! It’s quite a cold, old house so I don’t know if we’d freeze to death or be deafened as people walk up the stairs?
