Do you have a shopping appointment?

Today I went to the Apple store to buy a new work laptop.
I went in, spoke to an assistant who asked "do you have a shopping appointment?".

Err what?

I have only ever booked an Apple appointment if I want to the Genuis bar.
So I made my appointment, wandered around Mango (a few doors down) for 5 mins and then went back to actually buy my laptop at my allocated time.

I'm wondering what would have happened if the hadn't have had any appointments? I do not go into the city very often. Surely they wouldn't not serve you. Only on new product launch days is the Apple store mad busy, and I don't even think that happens these days, does it? They're not like hair dressers.

I guess I would have gone to nearby John Lewis.

This is not AIBU, or a complaint - just musing.

I have my shiny new laptop.

I’d go to JL anyway - better service and less wanky!

Apple have kept this since they started doing it after lockdown. Pain in the arse if you are passing and want to pop in. I'd personally look online and try and find one cheaper.

Oooh what did you get?

I've been waiting AGES for them to bring out/back a 14/15" MacBook. Got excited when it was announced...WAITED & WAITED....

thennits no bloody good for me! No number pad area. I'm doing spreadsheets, I can't cope with just the numbers along the top keys!!

SO SO SO pissed off.

& no, I don't want a magic keyboard! If I wanted a separate keyboard I'd get a PC!

I did actually go to JL when I bought my last laptop. I wasn't sure what I was looking for then, so needed quite a bit of assistance. I spent quite a long time there, chose what I wanted, only to find they didn't have it in stock.
So I went to Apple and got it there.

Oh, I didn't know it was a lockdown thing. That makes sense, but yes, it would have been a total PITA if they hadn't have been able to serve me.

MacBook Air 13.6" in Space Grey.
My last 2 have been MacBook Pro, but apparently the M2 chip is an improvement on what they had before, which was what made it inferior to the Pro.

I do have a magic keyboard which works fine for me.
