Young squirrel in the middle of our garden

Hi,
We have a youngish squirrel, scampering in the middle of our garden. We waited a good few hours for the mother to come but she hasnt and it will be dark soon. It seems happy, no broken bones as its scampering about. My concern is the red kites and neighbour's cat. The squirrel is not going towards the bushes or the horse chestnut tree. Its right in the middle of the lawn.
Any advice on what to do?

I suppose that you could put some nuts or seeds etc in the bushes and hope it moves on. Hard to know if it is vulnerable due to age, though.
