Flu but I’m starving.

I’ve got all the other hallmarks of flu. Came on pretty suddenly and I’ve been almost immobile for two days, horrendous aches, headache, dry cough, sweating, shaking. The whole caboodle.

Excelpt…I’m ravenous! Luckily DH is here and bringing me snacks and food; mainly stuff I can eat laying down like a galaxy bar or a bowl of chips. I’ve never had this before with a flu bug, the two nasty ones I’ve had before left me with zero appetite.

Is this a strain doing the rounds? I haven’t Covid tested tbf because I don’t have any tests (and there’s no point). I feel so so ill but want to eat all the things.

Sounds like you’ve got covid.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 21/09/2022 16:07

There is a point if your husband or anyone you've been in contact with could have covid passed on from you

kerkyra · 21/09/2022 16:08

Covid gave me a hugh appetite. I dont know of anyone who has had the flu in years so it's likely covid,

Test for Covid!

Somethingsnappy · 21/09/2022 16:10

I was very hungry with covid too, but completely lost my sense of taste, so I wasn't happy!

TimeAtTheBar · 21/09/2022 16:11

Ah fuck.

Not sure what diffenrev it makes if it is though? No isolation or anything now.

I had this with covid….

abovedecknotbelow · 21/09/2022 16:11

It could be anything. DH and kids have had a stinking cold this week, all hungry.

No difference really. Just be sensible and rest indoors while you feel poorly. Same as you would with the flu. Hope you enjoy your snacks and feel better soon!

Pixiedust1234 · 21/09/2022 16:12

You don't have flu. You have a different virus. One of the symptoms of flu is feeling death like and nobody eats when feeling deathly as opposed to very ill.

Many people also confuse very bad colds with flu. If you have it, you know, there's no mistaking it. Never had covid so can't comment on if its that.

TimeAtTheBar · 21/09/2022 16:12

Thai would be round three if it is ffs.

It’s not a cold. I’m not full of snot. Just the feeling like death while also being hungry. All I’ve done is sleep and eat (and whimper) for two whole days now.

You probably won't be able to have a booster for 12 weeks after Covid so handy to know

imayhavelostmymarbles · 21/09/2022 16:14

There is still isolation. 5 days from positive test for adults. 3 days for kids (as they seem to be less contagious more quickly). We are just riding it out in our house as NHS its 10 days from test due to working with vulnerable people.
I have had covid 5 times and this was definitely worse. Flu symptoms, awful sinuses and cough. Appetite not altered until I lost my sense of taste. And then there didn't feel like much point eating!
Hope you feel better soon.

Threadkillacilla · 21/09/2022 16:15

Get him to make some fridge soup with plenty of garlic and sweat it out.

Jules912 · 21/09/2022 16:16

That sounds a lot like Covid! Saying that I have an awful cold right now which I'm assuming can't possibly be Covid as I only had it 3 weeks ago!

This is a common misconception. Flu viruses can be very mild or deadly depending on strain and person. Some people even have asymptomatic flu.

Lampzade · 21/09/2022 16:21

You probably have covid
I have covid, but still eat well.
When I have flu I lose my appetite

blitzen · 21/09/2022 16:40

Totally test for covid! It gave me such an appetite!

TimeAtTheBar · 21/09/2022 16:41

I’ll send dh to the shops to get a test.

I was ravenous when I had covid. Sadly I wasn't well enough to cook anything decen.

crispsandnuts · 21/09/2022 16:48

I had mainly aches and a permanently empty stomach with covid, thankfully not much else but the hunger symptom surprised me

moggerhanger · 21/09/2022 16:49

I'd say Covid too. I'm currently under the cosh with that, but hungry too. I've had real flu about three times and each time I couldn't face eating.

Flu is like any other virus. You can feel like you've been beaten all over with a rusty shovel or you can not even realise you have it and every variation in between. There isn't a cookie cutter set of symptoms to determine whether you have 'real' flu.

mytearsricochet · 21/09/2022 17:18

I have covid at the minute. I feel really unwell but also starving all the time. It’s really weird as I wouldn’t normally want to eat at all when I feel this unwell with anything else.
