A whole day to myself!

Finally in a job where I am allowed to book leave after years of working in a school and only having time off when the dc are off.
I’ve taken tomorrow off as one of the dc have a meet the teacher thing after school that I would have struggled to get back to work for (annoyingly I’m hybrid but it’s fallen on a day where I’m in the office so I just thought fuck it, I’ll have the day off).

I’ve already sort of made my plans for the day, drop dc off to school, go to the gym and then the spa, home for probably 10:30, bit of housework and make a cake, lunch with a friend and then walk to school.

In another world I may have spent the whole day in bed reading but I often spend a few hours a day at the weekend doing this so doesn’t really seem a good use of my time! When I go to the gym it’s usually shoehorned inbetween other things so always have one eye on the time and I rarely get to the spa so it will be so nice.

What would you do with a day all to yourself?

My only advice would be don't try and squeeze in too much. The school day is surprisingly short and goes incredibly quickly when you don't have kids around. Enjoy!!

Usually meet friends, deal with pony, walk dogs, go for a swim and a sauna (maybe even jump in the jacuzzi and steam room.

I actually used to have loads of free time but I had a baby 8 weeks ago

@takeasadsongandmakeitbetter I get your point totally but I’ve worked for such a long time in a job where you can’t book leave at all that it feels a frivolous waste not to pack in what I can! I hear people going off on annual leave for a few days and they’ve nothing planned for their time and nearly faint at the wasteful extravagance 😂
In reality, most of my leave will have to be used to cover school holidays but I have 14 days to use up this year or I’ll lose it, I get all of Christmas and new year off anyway so no need to take any then, and even just taking 5 days for the October half term leaves me with days to spare (I can carry a few over)…
Plus the school day is vanishingly quick, I agree with you 100% there! Never enough time to squeeze in what needs to be done.

In that case.... take some more days while the weather isn't too cold!!! Hope you have a great day! I'm currently on maternity leave and DC2 is such an easy baby so I'm smashing through my to do lists with DC1 at school but keep running out of time to relax!

I always book a day off for my birthday just to have a day to myself.

I normally go shopping - it's not so much about spending money, just nice to wander around the shops without the children. I go to one of the big shopping centres.

Regardless of what i do, I always treat myself to lunch. Doesn't have to be posh, just something I haven't made myself.

Yes I’m quite tempted to take another odd day here and there.
Feels so luxurious.
I might book myself a day to do some Christmas wrapping, that seems like a good use of time (obviously in December), the shopping I do all online over one weekend at the start of December but then end up trying to wrap secretly at night with the result being me still awake at 3am the morning of Christmas furiously wrapping 😂
Enjoy the mat leave, I was the same, rarely sat and did nothing but chill out, but that’s just not really me most of the time. I’m not one for telly/films etc and I have always preferred ‘doing’ stuff, even if just getting out for a walk.
It’s my birthday soon but I don’t mind working on my birthday, I’ve always done so, I’m not a big birthday celebrator as long as I have a Chinese takeaway in the evening I’m good!
