Can I ask where is the best place you have travelled alone?

Just that really. Want to book a short solo trip for 3/4 nights in January. I like art, history, food. Not a huge fan of bars/clubs/large crowds. Can anyone help me with some suggestions?

I've only been to Slovenia solo but it was lovely.

I liked New York but that was many years ago now, so can't comment on current situ. Same with Istanbul (10-ish years ago).

More recently, really enjoyed Rome and Florence, pottering around the narrow streets, popping out into beautiful squares, little markets, churches, checking out cute shops etc. Lots to just 'absorb'!

Also liked Krakow, for much of the same reasons as Rome/Florence!

Didn't feel unsafe in any, apart from having general awareness of my surroundings and making sure I was going roughly where I thought I was supposed to be!

I went there on my own too! Well, it was with Travelsphere but I was single. Still about my most favourite place. Lakes, mountains etc. Lovely!

I’ve been to about 15 countries in Europe on my own and felt safe everywhere.

Venice when I was in my twenties. It was virtually all couples, and the only place I travelled where I didn’t have to fend off unwanted attention.

Hbh17 · 10/04/2023 16:03

I loved Cape Town, but it's a bit far for 3 days! Pretty much any European city is enjoyable alone, as they all have lots to do. Somewhere with a good public transport system or plentiful cabs might be beneficial? I liked both Geneva and Basel solo but, sadly, Switzerland is currently very expensive.

I would say Paris or Vienna.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 10/04/2023 16:05

Maldives, but that's not really suitable for a few days away

LawksaMercyMissus · 10/04/2023 16:06

Paris and Porto

I’ve travelled many places on my own. Never felt unsafe in Europe.

Not sure if you just mean abroad, but I had a great short break in London when my friend dropped out. Much easier to get last minute tickets to the theatre- I got to see the opening night of Cabaret with Eddie Redmayne- and I just planned loads of activities that I fancied and had lunch leftovers for dinner in my room ( which was nicer than it sounds).

Iceland - Rekyavik and do a tour one of the days.

Stockholm. It was beautiful, clean and calm and I felt very safe by myself. It had loads of great museums and an interesting food scene. People says it's expensive, but I didn't think it was much more expensive than visiting London. Would go again in a heartbeat.

This is where I was going to suggest.

I’ve never felt safer anywhere in the whole world.

NemoandDoris · 10/04/2023 17:45

Madrid, but it will be cold. Barcelona for somewhere less cold. Lisbon is very safe as well.
