Have you tried the Asda just essentials range?

It's all over YouTube and TikTok with people saying how good it is and how much money they save. I know shelves are getting empty and I feel sorry for people who truly need it and can't get it. Is it something new to you or have you always used the basic range? As a family smart price is something we always used. Never looked down our noses at it.

No never used it my “local” Asda is 2 buses away and I heard they are now limiting it to 3/4 per customer of each item so wouldn’t be worth going for me (I have 4 children) I don’t see how it’s any different to tescos or sainsburys basic range?

BattenburgDonkey · 20/09/2022 14:28

It’s just new packaging, and some things are slightly more expensive than when it was smart price.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/09/2022 14:29

I've always used it for certain things. I can't see what the difference between smart price plain flour and branded plain flour is, for example.

piegone · 20/09/2022 14:30

It's not new it's just rebranding, I have no idea why the social media sites are going mad for it.

MrsCarson · 20/09/2022 14:47

It's new packages on the old Smart price stuff from what I can tell.
I always bought the Asda smart price in a lots of things anyway. The things we buy taste fine.

foobio · 20/09/2022 15:02

The difference is that they didn't previously stock the full basics range in every store, and certainly not online. Now it is supposed to be available everywhere (subject to stock).

Comefromaway · 20/09/2022 15:05

I always bought Smart price lasagnes for my son as the normal ones were too "meaty"

PuttingDownRoots · 20/09/2022 15:10

Have done for ages for some things. There's just more now. Currently in my fridge I have cooked chicken chunks, natural yoghurt, avocados, raspberries, blueberries, lettuce, coleslaw, tomatoes, apples, chocolate moose, and chicken breast. I have potatoes, onions, oats, flour etc elsewhere.

Its just normal food.

Scoundrella · 20/09/2022 15:11

We have. A lot of it is just the old smart price rebranded but I think they expanded the range.

it’s been fine and helped reduce our shopping budget which we needed to do as bills increasing took away some
of that

Thatboymum · 20/09/2022 15:44

I bought lots of it and have to say I didn’t really rate it, the raw meats like were pumped full of water so cooked to next to nothing, the jar sauces were super runny, the fruit were really tiny and poor quality. The only thing I really liked out the range was the tinned rice and soup, the dry pastas, and the frozen microwave meals were ok

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 20/09/2022 15:56

Not at home but I did an online shop for the care home I work in and tried it.

No complaints. All very nice. Bottle and boxes are small, though.

witchesbubblebath · 20/09/2022 16:06

Yes it's good. The £2 steak is good

purpleme12 · 20/09/2022 16:14

I buy it for certain things.
Ready meals.
Although they must have changed the recipe for lasagne as she decided she didn't like that.
And they had most of the ready meals out of stock apparently when we last ordered

ODFOD2 · 20/09/2022 16:17

I suspect that Asda probably slid a few influences a few products to try.

But yes it's the same smart price stuff in a yellow packet with a few pence wacked onto the price too.

piano789 · 20/09/2022 16:21

Yes I get the £2.00 steak it is very nice
