No biopsy results

I had some uterine and cervical polyps removed back in July and a biopsy was taken as well because my womb was ‘lumpy’

I still haven’t had the results and it’s been 10 weeks.
Have contacted GP receptionists (3 times 😬)they haven’t received them either.

Has anyone else waited a long time? Is this a good thing (no news is good news) or should I chase it up (also, how?)

I’m flip flopping from its all fine, to super anxious. Also it’s difficult to get travel insurance waiting for test results!

Grateful for any advice!

Presumably these were done by a Gynaecologist? You need to contact their secretary +/- PALS at the hospital. It is not really your GP's role to give you biopsy results taken in secondary care.

Yes they were done by Gynaecology.
The follow up letter I received was also copied to the GP asking them to contact me with the results when received ( this was in August)
I’m not sure how to contact the Gynaecologists secretary, but will Google, thank you 😊

Yes good luck. I would be cautiously optimistic that no news means good news. Definitely call the department- if the number isn't on the hospital website, phone switchboard and ask for the gynae secretaries.

Interestingly I had the same experience, cervical polyps removed at the same time, but have heard absolutely nothing.

Manvcxxx · 21/09/2022 19:56

@iamtuftyclub Sorry you’re going through the long wait too- hope you hear good news soon!

Thanks, the surgeon said she didn't expect to find anything wrong , so hopefully I'm lucky, a lot of people aren't

MassiveSalad22 · 21/09/2022 20:16

Yeah I had a biopsy around July and never heard back- they told me they’d only be in touch if it showed anything. Cuts down on admin a lot I would guess!

Manvcxxx · 21/09/2022 20:23

Ah that’s reassuring to read!

Definitely follow up. Slightly different story but I've had endometrial cancer (all fine now) but my tumour was being tested for a genetic condition that puts me at risk of other cancers.

I had the testing in September 2020 and was told it would take 12 weeks or so for the results. I heard nothing and kind of forgot about it.

I randomly thought about it about a year later and mentioned it in a follow up appointment. Turns out that they'd lost my results. I had to have more tests and in the end it turned out that I did have the condition.

I guess the moral of the story is that things can, and do, get lost so it's definitely worth chasing to get a definitive answer.

Manvcxxx · 21/09/2022 20:33

@MrsMigginsCat That’s terrible! I’m glad all is well now though. Flowers

I think I’ll give it another couple of weeks and then call up.

I had unexpected endometrial cancer and they got my results within a week and a bit, so I do think it's more likely to be good news, but their systems do also seem chaotic so it's possible it's been missed, I'd phone up now (not because I think it's urgent, just because I'm not convinced that if you haven't already heard you're likely to in another two weeks!)
