I was really shocked to see this news this morning and I doubt that man would have ever been freed had it not been for the podcast. However if memory serves the podcast was rather ambiguous in its conclusion as to his guilt and I remember feeling the same way (though I haven't followed the case in years). It never seemed that the jury had enough evidence to convict though, which is what has led to him being freed. Similar to the West Memphis 3 in that regard I think.

Koenig left out a lot though and more has been discovered. Serial is a great story, but she isn't a lawyer our detective and it shows.

I think thats sometimes how it should be - in real life, the truth is that sometimes the right answer isnt obvious to a layperson, gives me more faith that they aren't leaving out inconvenient facts.
