It's only a few weeks till the new energy prices hit consumers, and businesses still don't know what they will be paying

So as life returns to normal after the last 10 days, it's not long to go until the new prices kick in for gas and electricity

www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-bills-support/energy-bills-support-factsheet-8-september-2022

The average unit price for dual fuel customers paying by direct debit will be limited to 34.0p/kWh for electricity and 10.3p/kWh for gas, inclusive of VAT, from 1 October.

Average standing charges will remain in line with the levels set by Ofgem for the default tariff cap from 1 October, at 46p per day for electricity and 28p per day for gas, for a typical dual fuel customer paying by direct debit.

Businesses are still waiting to hear. It's going to be a rocky few months. Party conference season starts soon, we have a new PM and it looks like she will be changing taxes and NI in a min budget.

Strikes are still happening. Inflation is still high. And winter is coming.

Individual people don't all know what they are paying. I've not got my rates through the post yet. Just a warning that they are changing.

@Flatmountains have you checked online? I've had no written communication through, but found out yesterday my DD has been put up by Eon without my consultation for next month. It's not by much, but it did piss me off because I'm in credit.

I don't do online accounts. The company knows I expect everything by post, as will lots of energy customers.

How can you claim you're going for growth while doing nothing for businesses? And as I understand it prepay customers who are already being badly overcharged won't be getting protection from the price freeze.

Well you do know the most you’ll be paying with the new cap announced.

I can’t see companies offering lower rates than the discounted new cap, even those on fixes have been told to expect to be lowered to no lower than the new ‘cap’ rate from October.

I’ve already seen a few businesses announce closure. Many more will follow I’m sure because it just won’t be viable.

Hopefully energy prices will be in the news soon and business' concerns will be taken seriously
